Hi Folks,

Got a bit of a problem and looking for a bit of advice...

I have a VW Golf 1.4S - Dec 2001.

Over the last couple of months it's generated a bit of a strange issue. When I turn the car on and just sit stationary, the rev counter sits between 6-11 k, but also (but not all the time) fluctuates between 6-10... revving up and down.

It also does this when I come to a halt a traffic lights, and sometimes the engine cuts out completely...but without sounding as though it's actually stalled.

I took it to a local / small independent VW garage and they said that there was no faults in the engine / computer log and that it was probably an issue with the type of fuel I have been using. They suggested even sticking with 1 garage for fuel (not to swap around) and maybe using a higher grade...

None of this seems to have made any difference, any suggestions??

"clean out throttle body and try"

Is this something simple that I could do myself??

I'm no mechanic! Maybe I should just suggest this to my garage...

could even be the engine temp sensor, although I would have expected that to show up on vagcom

to do it properly you wil need to set up the basic settings of the throttle valve
you could just remove the intake pipe to the throttle valve and clean out the butterfly area and see if it makes a difference and if it improves then have the basics reset
