I get this slight judder when idle and when I pull away at around 1500 revs. The rev counter is stable, so it doesn't appear to be an air flow related problem.

There's also noticable engine vibration has high revs.

could this be the notourious gearbox problem ? How do I verify if it is ?

The car's a 2003 A4 avant with 85k on the clock. It's been recently serviced ( independant garage..my bro ! )

Has anyone come across this before, any advise/help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds familiar....is it on it's third set of Multitronic oil? It should have had 2 changes by now (being every 40k).....

I'm not sure to be honest. Bought the car with 40k on the clock and I haven't had it changed.

Is that what I should do ?
Is this a symptom of old multitronic oil ?

I'm hardly qualified to speak of these things, but what others much wiser have told me is 40k miles is a MUST with these things. You could be in luck and it just be the "clutch pack" on it's way out - in which case you need to find somewhere around £1200 for it's replacement.....possibly more. It could be the hydraulic control valve - which is equally expensive....or it could be total toast in which case ££££.

There are some on this forum that are well heeled in Multichronic boxes and can tell you all the tricks'n'traps - so you'd do best to speak to them and I'm sure they'll be along any time now. Failing that C&R Enterprises or Indietech, both site sponsors, know a lot about these things so would be worth speaking with.

Cheers,
Dan.
