Hi, can anybody please help, I parked up my perfectly running estate sport (1999) twelve months ago, I started it several times in that period, all ok, but on latest start up noticed running very badly, it will tick over all day and will rev at high end but in between is awful and it is difficult to keep it running, it is now parked in my local repairers who are also baffled, they have plugged something in which told them it was the throttle body, however after fitting a replacement it is still the same, I'm ploughing good money after bad please help. Barry.

Hi there, have a search on the forums, I am sure there is a calibration routine to run for the throttle body; sure I saw something somewhere.

I parked my 1.8T up for 2 years starting it up on a regular basis but when the last winter arrived and we had that real cold snap it did exactly the same as yours. (mine had been stored outside with no battery connected).
The mobile mechanic couldn't get it to talk to his equipment or the Bosch equipment he used but it did talk to the laptop with his OBD 2 on it.
He found the readings were off the scale with the MAF sensor showing full flow with the engine ticking over, He said the car seamed to have lost the plot.
He tried what he called a reset on the ECU which worked and brought the settings back to factory settings, the car started up and ran fine,
He changed the MAF sensor as he said it was on it's way out and the car runs sweet as a nut now.
Well worth the £40 he charged me!
I removed the throttle body and cleaned it out prior to him calling as I thought that's what the problem was.
Hope this may help
Tony ;)
