Do all auto a4s have the multitronic box fitted? Or is there a standard auto as well.
Have started to look at 2003 a4s & was told to buy with caution due to gearbox problems.
Thanks in advance.

Some of the B6 platform A4's have a tiptronic rather than multitronic auto gearbox. As far as I'm aware, the tip works like a conventional autobox with steering wheel controls whereas the multitronic is a CVT auto box.

So, was it an optional extra then to have the cvt box?
If so, what are the tiptronic boxes like? Any problems reported.
I must admit to being a bit naive about all this and as such would be worried about buying a car that had a reputation of gearbox problems. I would consider buying an a4 with tiptronic box though.

i think the Quattro B6 A4's are built with Tip and the none quattro multi, not 100% but i think i read it here some time ago.
Apprarently the Tips are more realible.
Good Luck.

I thought it went anything up to 2.0L petrol/diesel was Multitronic on the B6 - and anything Quattro/higher engine capacity was Tip - however I did drive a 2.5D with Multitronic (it was deffo a multi as it was on the back of the engine) and the dealer claimed it was a Quattro - so that doesn't make much sense...
