Hello there, I'm relatively new to this site, but been a VW driver for a while now. I've recently bought a 2000 Passat 1.8 Sport (non-turbo).

Does anyone have experiences with one of these? Good or bad? What makes them 'Sport'y?

Are they normally identified as 'Sport' on the outside somewhere, or do they just have the 1.8 badge?

Also, could anyone tell me what kind of MPG I should expect from this? Will it be much different from what's quoted on the Parker's website?

I have a VW Passat 1.8 Sport (Non-Turbo). It only displays a 1.8 litre badge but enginewise there are slight differences to the other 1.8 engines. The interior has sports seats and a sport steering wheel. It also seems to be a bit lower than the other passats.

Mine's a 1.8 Sport too! No badge, just the 1.8 one but they have lower and stiffer suspension, different alloys, climate, leather steering wheel , handbrake and gearlever gaiter, sports seats, 3 spoke steering wheel and if its a 2000 model year a CD changer in the boot! MPG wise expect about 30 on average, on a run this will climb. My wife has had over 40 out of it but she does drive like Miss Daisy!

Went for a drive through Derbyshire earlier in the week, and managed over 40mpg, but that was mainly on 50 limit roads littered with cameras...
I'll have to take it out for a proper drive in the week.

I have a 1.8 Sport too - my last tank of fuel showed average of 41.8mpg on the computer, true calculation was 40.2mpg so the computer's not far off.

Interior is similar trim as a Golf GTi, suspension is supposedly lower and stiffer than 'normal' Passats and I have 205/15 tyres on mine.

Only thing that really identifies it as a 'Sport' is the 3 spoke leather stering wheel.

Had mine for 3 years without any problems.
