After 24k miles and 13 months, I am getting exactly 10 miles per litre or 45.4 mpg; Trip computer agrees showing 45.5 (never been reset).
Range is about 525 before refuel light comes, and range shows zero at 580 miles (have squeezed an extra 10 miles after showing zero - dare not do any more!).
Driving is a mixture of lanes and motorways. On the motorways I tend to "keep a good pace".
Overall very pleased with economy.

This could mean anything, I notice a big difference between traveling at 70 and travailing at 80. My tip would be to try any drive at 60 - 70 on the m0otorway i.e. sit behind a wagon and engage cruise control and see what fuel consumption is it was interesting for me that difference can be 10 mpg (45 - 55 mpg)
If you are not getting these figure either there is something wrong with your Audi OR you live in a very low valley and have to travel great heights to get to work.

Can I ask what size the fuel tank on the A4 is?
I currently have a 2.0TDi 140 BHP Passat and can easily get 700 miles from a tank if I try.
This mornings daily average MPG is indicating 57.7. The average for this fill-up is 54.7. I have a 70 mile daily commute, all motorway with the cruise control set @ 70MPH.
The tank on the passat is 70 litres.
I was hoping to upgrade to a 170 BHP A4 in September, but will have to rethink. Especially if even the 140's range is so low.
A4 fuel tank is around 65 litres for FWD and 64 on quattro models I believe.
It was somewhat odd to spend a weekend with the S4 and get less range from a 64 litre tank than I get in the 45 litre tank in our mini..... :)
(but fun, then again - the mini is also fun, just not quite so in your face fast fun)

EOB,
If its any help, running a 2009 170bhp sline avant, 2500ish miles on the clock, at the moment about 38mpg around town and about 48mpg on a motorway trip doing about 80-85mph with 3 in the car, expect this to rise (hopefully) as the same model demo car we had was doing 53mpg on a mixed town/motorway weekend trial. Interest to hear what mpg others are getting but as we all know depends on driving style.
16K miles, 680 on the meter when I fill up. Can easily get 55mpg mixed driving by keeping to the speed limit and changing up when indicated. On a good run, say 50 miles+ I can eek out 58.7 mpg. I should take a reading and do a full tank and then re-fill to get the comparison but beleive it to be there or thereabouts.

That sounds encouraging. Thanks.
Begs the question about Belly Buster's figures.

You mention that you are happy with the economy, out of interest, what did you drive before and what figures were you achieving with that?
My last car was a BMW 530d and I only got the low 40s with that. Range was 500 odd miles on a 70 litre tank.

Niko, is yours the 140 or 170?

Daily trip is 15 miles on country lanes and then 20 miles on usually clear motorway + return. Without incriminating myself on the motorway speed, lets just say very little overtakes me.
Sure I can get 60mpg if I do 65 behind a lorry - but I was hoping to give "real world" figures so people thinking of buying get an informed view.
Before the A4 I had a 2.0 petrol Peugeot 307SW and that did 30mpg on the same run. Hence - very pleased with economy.

Thanks BB.
TBH, 65MPH is real world driving for me at the moment.
I seem to drive faster in the Winter and slower in the Summer. Probably because my journey across Fenwick moor is so bleak when it's raining. :D
Still on for the A4 then, only decision now - Saloon or Avant?
Avant carries a £20 premium in Car Tax though. (Tight Scot speaking here, every penny a prisoner!:biglaugh:)

Hi
I have a 2.0 tdi 140 bhp remapped to 170 bhp B7, and I get on a regular basis between 50 - 55 mpg between fill ups? I thought the new Audi was more economical ! I agree with eob that you can get 700 miles between fill ups, my tank is also 70 litres but on one occasion I did manage to squeeze 72 litres of diesel in ??

Interesting... I don't get far off that in my 2.7 tdi B8 multi-tronic. I do mostly motorway miles sitting at roughly 75-80. Defo around 510 to a tank before fuel light comes on. I horse it quite a bit too...

Over the past 30k miles I've averaged low 40's mpg (according to the computer anyway).
After a refill it indicates anything between 525 and 575 miles to go.
My driving style would be classed as 'keeping up with the car in front'.
Am tempted to slosh a tank or 2 of v-power to see if that makes any difference

I did Reading - Manchester return and Reading - Northampton return easily on one tank with plenty to spare, you must do some VERY long distance work !

lol nice. If im lucky I can squeeze 400miles out of a tank on the 3.0tdi. But then my driving style is "Drive it like you stole it"....

I can squeeze 500 miles as the light comes on. Range after filling up normally says 520 miles.
I would be interested if anyone found better economy with Shell V-Power diesel. When I tried it when it first came out it gave no benefits to economy (not sure it claims that anyway to be fair).

On my 2010 B8 S-Line 2.0 TDI 143 with 7,000 miles on the clock, I got 57.6 at 70 MPH which then creeped up to 58.8MPG on the M25 the other night. I was pleasantly surprised that the M25 allowed me to drive at the speed limit. However I was just as surprised looking at the MPG. I kept cruise control on however and accelerated modestly when it was off.
