View Full Version : Question O/S headlight alignment off after kerbing

Last week I had an unfortunate "coming together" with the kerbed part of a traffic island

Apart from the bent alloy and punctured tyre I've now realised that the O/S headlight alignment is way too high and doesn't move when adjusted by the levelling control as the N/S one does. I'm guessing that the beam deflector mechanism inside the unit has been affected by the kerbing impact...

So, my question - if I can get the headlight unit out (using the howto guide I just downloaded :-) does anyone know if it's easy/possible to re-seat/re-fit the beam deflector?

Car is 2005 2.0TDI A4 Avant S-Line - non-HID obviously.

TIA.

It could be that the bulb has become unseated too, check that first. The adjustment inside is done by ball and socket and they can pop out making it out of alignment and not affected by adjusting the adjustment screw. Not sure about gaining access to the ball joints, but its a case of look see.

Must have hit it hard!! Have you checked the suspension for mis alignment? Had a friend who hit a traffic island and it bent his subframe! :aargh4: About £1000 of damage!!

So far the car seems to drive OK - steering wheel alignment still true and no pulling to either side - fingers crossed! When I get the new wheels/tyres fitted I'll get the wheel alignment checked too. When I p[ut the spare on the front I had a real good look underneath and couldn't see anything obviously bent.

I've also realised that my car's a B7 (8ED) so this thread started in the wrong sub-forum, but I can't see any way of moving it...?

Thanks for the advice,
