Does anyone know what is involved in activating daylight running lights on a 2008 Highline?. The manual says it's a dealer job so I've just asked the question at my dealers .The mechanic said he didn't think it was possible but I find this hard to believe !
I hate the things personally but have just come back from Italy where it is now a legal requirement. It's a pain remembering to switch the lights on and an even bigger pain when you don't hear the 'Bing Bong' and forget to switch them off!!!

You need diagnostic equipment to change the long coding of the central electronics control unit, but yes it can be done.

Thanks for that. I was hoping there might be something straight foreward like the fuse which was removeable on Volvos.

If you dont mind me hi-jacking this thread, I'm also very keen to get them done and I'm just outside Glasgow, but will be travelling a lot through the UK over the next couple of weeks. Where are you?

Might be a silly question, but by DRL's on the Passat do you mean the parking lights or the dipped lights?
I saw a link recently on a google search to a new set of headlights for the B6 Passat that has the Audi-style LEDs built-in. Another guy put a set of lights where the front fogs would normally be as "DRL's", hence my confusion.
Personally I always drive with the dipped lights on, but I'd love to get set of front fogs/DRL's fitted to the car, or possibly these new Audi-style headlights, but I gather the first 2 aren't practical as the car wouldn't have come with the needed wiring loom?
Any advice/feedback?

On my 2007 2.0 TDI Sport, if you leave the headlight switch at the dipped beam position it puts the headlights on all the time when engine is running and switches them off when you remove the key from the ignition. It doesn't leave sidelights on when you switch off. It has auto headlights so not sure if that makes any difference.
Our Mini (late 2007 model) is the same, leave the headlight switch on the dipped setting and they come on and off with the ignition without leaving the side lights on when the key is out.
If you want that main dipped lights are on when you hit the ignition you will need someone with VAG COM to adjust the coding.

The mystery continues......
Andy from this forum tried to enable DRL's on my Passat with VAGcom but with no joy, does anyone know the coding required?
He did manage to activate a copuple of hidden tricks with the car though ;)

nice stuff like, coming home lights, leaving home lights, auto doors lock, & unlock.
we could get the scandinavian DRL's to work but it is full headlights on, not so nice,
the American DRL would not work, the coding would be accepted but no lights on, I imagine we have to change other modules to America such as instruments?, but is this then a can of worms or will the car work as normal?
If any one has sucessfully managed to enable DRL's on a UK Car we would like your feedback as I am sure it is possible but as to what is involved, any ideas anyone?

What is the coming home lights/leaving home lights? When I leave my setting on auto lights and its dark when I press the lock or unlock the lights come on for a short time. Is that the same thing?
When you say auto lock, is that when you drive off the car locks? I had that on my seat but quite surprised the passat doesnt do it.

yep same as you describe but damo140 doesn't have auto headlights so, you can enable coming home leaving home with vag com, so on unlocking, lights come on and if you leave the headlights on when locking they stay on for a few seconds.
yes same again car locks at 15km/h and unlocks when the key is removed from ignition,

so Kenny, according to your quote enabeling north american DRL's all you have to do is switch the hand brake off!! DOH!! only thing we probably didn't do!! :o

Yes,but, you have no tail lights with the North American version, nor can you activate the Scandinavian and American version at the same time. Many taxis use there fog lights as DRL in Scandinavia

Exactly what we were looking for DRL's with no tail lights!! cannot believe we missed the handbrake thing!!
to confirm the North American DRL's on is just the front side lights not headlights?
many thanks for clearing up the activate DRL's if only we new this yesterday

Auto lock should be available through your OBC.

Kenney, we had a another go last night, and managed to enable the DRL's. We managed to get main-beam on, but not side-lights. Is this what you have?

Main beam?
Shouldn't it be dipped beam?

A bit confusing, main beam (headlights), another name for dipped. Different terminology, means the same thing

So you can have the headlights on without side lights just by starting the engine?

Yes, as soon as you release the handbrake
So does this mean that if you have autohold on every time you stop start with auto hold in traffic the headlights will be on and off or is it just when the hand brake is used manually?
