Sorry for yet another C/L thread but help would be appriciated.

Yesterday I removed the drivers door panel and completely removed the wiring loom, apart from some crack in the insulation on a couple of wires everything seemed ok, I striped back the wrapping for about a foot down the loom from where it plugs into the car it's self. I checked all other doors for problems and there were no signs of any cracked insulation.

After doing this everything is still the same as before, so out comes the comfort module, this did feel a little warm but perfectly dry as are all the wiring loom plugs on the side panel.

What I have established is that there is no power at all getting to both back doors, (front doors and boot work perfectly) the speakers work but I am assuming no power because.
a) the rear door open lights, the red warning lights in the door panel don't work.
b) No rear doors open warning shows on the instrument panel.
c) Rear doors do not operate the courtesy lights

Sods law my test meter is knackered.

So now for the strange bit, if I unplug the red and the small black plug from the comfort module everything that was working prior to disconnecting these still works. I have no idea what does what as I have no reference material. Does anyone know what functions the four plugs on the comfort module have?

I could do with some comments on the above.

Am I wasting my time and this is definitely a comfort module problem which as the car is only worth about £1800 ain’t worth spending £500 or so on something which is just a little inconvenient, or does it sound like a broken wire or duff connection, I find it strange that nothing apart from the speakers work on the rear doors yet it is only the back doors that don’t work. I am thinking that the alarm won’t set because it is not getting any signal from the rear doors and this may also be the case with the remote C/L, Am I right or wrong?

The wiring loom from the comfort control unit, remove the insulation tape about 30cm from the connector ,there are some soldered, connections which tend to corrode,i think the wires are red on blue

Am I looking in the wrong place? I can't see any soldered joints. The mastic sealer on the wires indicates the position where the loom exited the comfort module case.

On the CCU the black 12 pin connector pin 10, there is a grey on red wire. This is one connection the doors have in common along with the can bus wires, trace this wire from the CCU to the 20-pin connector, black, door, A pillar, left, and see if there are no other wires connected to it,before entering the 20 pin connector. One question, are you only guessing that there is no power to the rear doors?????????

Hi Kenny, I found the soldered joints in the end, I wasn't looking far enough along the loom and have re-done all of them, mine were actually crimped with a 'rubber jonny' over them. I will try the grey wire as everythink else I've done has had no effect what so ever. I'm guesing no power because my test meter is goosed and I'm a bit skint at the moment, however the red lights in the front doors don't seem to run through the C/L system, they still work when I pull the fuses so I'm assuming the same for the back.

Iam afraid you are working in the dark so to speak. Can you not make a test lamp, with an old bulb holder, you don't really need a meter.I was thinking, if you could, find out if there is actually power to the back doors, there is the possibility, that both door locks are buggered.Have a look at fuse 23 which is to the back doors

Yeah, I am working a bit in the dark, and I suppose I could've made a simple test tool.

One thing concerning me, My car was registered in March 2001 yet the date stamp on the comfort module clearly say's 07/2001 see pics, the car has a full up to date service history yet there is no mention of any work ever done on C/L system apart from a reciept for new key fob batteries.

Can you read a wiring diagram if i posted it to you, might help you understand. But what would help, was a fault code read, that will tell you everything.Maybe it means best before 07/2001 :D

I can read wiring diagrams if they are not too complicated, I have the Haynes manual but to be honest it is hard work. As for fault codes, the AA man did a pretty thorough diagnostic check on all systems when my battery died, the only fault found was an engine management fault for a lean mixture on bank one, he didn't find any problem with any othe electrical system. The C/L fault existed before the battry problem so no connection there.
