Hi All,
Can anyone throw some light on this. I've just replacement my convenience module, recoded the new unit as the old but for some reason im unable to sync my Key fobs.
Does the new convenience module need some additional coding to teach to the key fobs?
When looking on VAG COM the convenience module see's the operation of the key fob buttons, but nothing operates the locks. PS the central locking works ok from the door lock.

Many thanks in advance

Have you matched the keyfobs with resepct to Channel 21 ?
Here is the Link (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A4_(8E)_Comfort_System)

Thanks for the tip, not looked into that. But bearing in mind that the replacement module i fitted was secondhand would this setting still need to be set?

Convenience Module second hand or new definenetly needs setting on Channel 21.
I believe this channel records the keyfob serial number which in turn allows for arming & disarming the alarm, locking & unlocking, etc. Will also remember A/C settings last used by resepctive key user.
You need to do this for each of your keyfobs as per the link instructions.
Think about it - how would your car be secure??
Of course if you also have the same second hand keyfobs that accompany the second hand Convenience Module then you do not need to do this!!!! But then they would not start the car as they are not synced to your immobiliser (in instrument cluster) and that is a dealer job.

Something odd seems to be happening, when trying to change the adaption settings as recomended, my VAG COM say's the software is not registered, however if i plug in my old convienance module i'm able to change the settings.
Ever experianced any thing like this? Is there another setting i need, I see there's a login in button, should this be used?
Many thanks once more in advance.

What cable do you have - Genuine or Ebay special ?

Its an ebay special... i know they are not great, but if it was just the cable causing the problem that wouldnt explain why i can change the settings in my old module but not the new one.

My only advice would be to try it with a Genuine cable for which the software was designrd to be used. The problem being that 3rd party cables can provide a multitude of unpredictable issues as they rely on various software emulations between the cable and the software! It may also be PC dependent.
You are not too far away - PM me if you want to bring your car here and try with my genuine cable?

Come to the conclusion that my problem is not with the convenience module, new module has just faulted the same way..
So putting the key fobs to one side, what i have noticed is that when unlocking the car by using the key after time all the doors will not unlock, with exception of the drivers door which of course is a mechanical operation, when i place the key in the ignition all the doors then unlock. I've taked the door lock apart and checked the operation of the microswitches within the lock, all test good.
So, im wondering what after time could effect the operation of the central locking.... how does the alarm interact with the central locking??

.... how does the alarm interact with the central locking??
The alarm is in the convenience module, via CAN-BUS it talks to the Instrument cluster for the immobiliser, and to the alarm siren in the boot.
Communication with all door modules for locking/unlocking/elec.windows/elec. mirrors / etc. is via the CAN-BUS, i.e. two "bus" wires to the doors / boot / petrol flap / etc..
If it was a wiring or micro switch problem then it should show up with VAG-COM as some form of error?
What is the part number of the original Conv Module - what is the part number of the replacement, where did you get the replacement, is it new?

I diagnosed a problem for a mate last week and his VAG-COM with Fleabay Cable did not bring up the same errors that my VAG-COM with genuine cable did. This was relating to the 01-Engine and a broken "Clutch Switch".
I sent him home with the DTC still present and he could not see it with his cable and software.
You need a proper scan!

When you unlock the car with the key, only the drivers door unlocks until you put the key into the ignition - you have to do this in under 30sec or the alarm will go off. It's a security feature.

Hi Woorlord
Think you may be right... at present i do have a couple of errors reported by vagcom, air con and steering position but no errors on instruments or the convienence module.. but maybe there is, but as you say my cable might not be reporting these.
The replacement convenience module i tryed was secondhand... yes i know.. not the best option but after being quoted £235.00 from Audi and picking myself of the floor i opped for the secondhand route.
However.. what would be the odds of both modules behaving the same.... not that high surely... or am i just out of luck :(

Convenience Modules are a common problem - not sure what you source was for this part.
The simplest solution is a proper VAG-COM scan and coding a known good part, etc. - can't spell it out any clearer than that - chasing you own tail will be the main problem using anything else!
