No Brakes!

I got in my 1990 GTI 16V the other day after it has sat for a little while and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. There is fluid in the reservoir, no obvious leaks from any calipers, so I assume that the master cylinder must have gone. I'm sure that it is unlikely that air has got into the system.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Any simple tests that I might try to confirm?

I suggest you fit a new 22-mm master cylinder and bleed the brakes, this is a very easy job on the Golf 2 and the MC’s are quite cheap from places like GSF but watch the quality, there is some terrible rubbish out there that I would not like to trust with my life.
