Hi I have recently bought a Vr6. I am using is for motorway driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. I have noticed that the temp gauge has started moving from the middle downwards then back up again. Is this normal? This will happen a couple of times every journey (60 miles). Is doesn't go into the red just middle to bottom.
I have checked the coolant and that is full.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Sounds like a failed water pump, which means coolant is not circulating correctly. This could account the the erratic change in temperature. Does the car to overheat too? A faulty thermostat could be preventing proper circulation too. Could also be a suspect coolant temperature sender too.A fault code should be stored for that one.

thanks Herby.
The car doesn't seem to overheat. It just goes between 190 (middle of gauge) downward then back up again.

i would start with, the temp sensor, on a vr6 engine thay are located at the frount right hand side, there are two or three sensors in a line, a blue one a yellow and a white one, have the car scaned find which one is playing up and change it, only cost about £24, so very cheap
