Brakes have just started squeeking on my 3.0 cab, does it sound like the pads will need changing? They squeak with light pedal pressure, ok with moderate pressure then squeak if you brake hard
If so, any recommendations for decent pads and where to get them?
Thanks in advance
I have exactly the same problem, but im not 100% if ur car needs new pads. I was thinking of lubricating the pads with copper grease which will ease of the bloody squeakiness.
If not then I will too change my pads.
Here are a few:
1) Mintex
2) EBC
3) HQ (not that amazing)
Im sure they are more than the list above.
Will do some research into pricing 2nite.

Some research I've been doing shows they are all more or less the same price. Personally I'll be using ATE from EuroCarParts unless anyone offers any more likely candidates - as they are just up the road and seem to be more or less the same money as everywhere else.
Cheers,
Dan.

cheers guys, squeeking is still there after greasing back of the pads, any ideas? Also, now the drivers side theres a slight 'klonk' when u apply the brake pedal at low speed, almost sounds as if sometihngs loose and clonking into place? dont hear it at normal speed but could be because its moving faster..
Any ideas guys? Getting quite embarrassing :o

Hey Glenbat,
I too get a clonking noise, whenever I apply the brakes and when driving slowly or when I let go of the accelerator, I hear a hissing noise coming from the driver side.

I have this on mine and a new set of discs and pads and the problem was gone, i originally thought it was the suspension but it was only the brakes, hope this helps.

the pads look pretty new, but my mate said they weren't a brilliant fit, he suggested a new set of pads and go from there, any suggestions or recommendations?

My pads were pretty new but the disc's had had it, might be worth getting the calipers bushes replaced as mine had a bit of movement in them and would get a clunking noise. standard discs and pads are fine.

I upgraded my pads to EBC greenstuff. I was not happy with the bite from the ATEs. I bought new discs whilst I was at it for the front. They squeeled a little for the first 500 miles on and off. Some harder braking helped with this. If your brakes are squeeling at low speed then try some heavy braking if you havn't done so for a while. A glaze can build up on the disc.

Right, theres a road by mine thats about 300 or 400 yards long and really uneven, at low speed (can only drive at low speed or it'll loosen your fillings) driving over it theres a constant rattle from the front of the car, til u get onto smooth road, or get fast enough to not be able to hear it.
Rolled over it today, but lightly applying the brakes, no rattle at all!! Thought the rattle was the plastic guarding under the car, coupel of fixings are missing, but after applying the brakes no rattle at all
Any ideas what part of the braking set up could cause this?

probably the pads slightly loose in the carrier. if you jack a wheel up and have someone apply the brakes, then try to rotate the wheels back and forth, you may be able to feel a slight movement.

How about the anti-rattle clips?? Had the same sort of problem with mine.
Jack the car up and tap on the tyre with a rubber hammer.
Worth a shot mate.
For some reason my brakes dont squeak anymore .
It recently stopped, which is strange but good!!!

cheers mate, tap the side wall, or the tread? Do you mean the anti rattle clips that hold the pads in place in the calipers?
Seen some mintex pads on ebay for £35 delivered, worth getting and trying? Also, will my cab 3.0 sport have ATE calipers? And how would i know?

right guys, bit of an update
Had the pads out, got loads of life left on them, mate says they're quite a cheap make and dont look too good, and the retainnig clips are a bit bent too, had to bend them into shape to get them back in, he's suggested a new set of pads to start with, maybe Mintex or EBC?
I'd of thought the squeeking tho was from a sticking caliper though, any thoughts? Starting to p!ss me off :zx11:

Get new pads if the others look remotely suss. I got EBC discs and pads (greenstuff pads) and have found them to be excellent. There seems to be mixed feelings but I have been impressed. They did squeek a little at first particularly in slow moving traffic. I thought I was going to have to have them out. After about 800 - 1000 miles they bedded in perfectly. Squeeks gone.
