Just purchased a 02 A4 1.8t sport today with 85k on the clock.
loving it so far but I was just wondering at what sort of revs does the turbo start spooling up, with my previous experience with turbo cars they seem to come in at around 3000rpm and can be felt quiet abit.
With the A4 is sounds as its spooling up at just below 2000rpm and pulls pretty smoothly from there is this a normal thing or is this abit earlyer than it should?

Thanks

That is normal behaviour for the 1.8T - or more correctly I should say that mine does exactly the same thing which I believe to be normal.

Wasn't an old Ford you had was it?

Most modern turbos come in before 2,000rpm and are linear in performance. Old skool turbos tended to come in later and with a good kick.

I think nearly all modern turbos have a dv, standard dv will a recycling type.

Old turbos didn't sometimes have a dv, like the Renault GT so fitting one reduced lag between gear changes so the turbo didn't stall.

They are on diesels, if that's what you were thinking of?

im thinking dv as a normal "rev.... hisss" i see you can put a forge recirculating dv on but what sort of benifits would i get from this ??
