I'm ever so slightly tempted by the R36 version of the passat - has anyone got any experience of this?

It looks good, it's fast and you should buy one.
(No, I haven't - is the answer to your question, but please buy one and tell us all about it :))

I think the Passat is even quicker, as it's got a 3.6 V6 (300ps) compared to the Golf's 3.2 V6 (250ps)
But go on, buy one :p

If you are unsure then I think you should buy me one....and then I could tell ya what you are missing!:D
A friend of mine borrowed one once and said it was incredible - performance and comfort.

I had a 3.2 SEL Estate it was a Fantastic Q car - the 3.6 must be even better, go for it is my advice, but keep the full service on the DSG as the dealer thinks they missed a filter/ oil change at 40K on mine and the box had to be replaced by 45k! (under warranty - phew).

Can confirm the car is quick :D, runs wide when you using more power on roundabouts- not a problem if you know what is going to happen. Suspension can get unsettled but only concrete parts of our lovely motorway system - M42 to M40 is truely awful.
The only part that lets the car down is the DSG - the gearing is not right for a fast car. I suggest you take one for a long test drive before buying.

it maybe worth asking if DSG tuning is available for your car from a GIAC dealer, http://giac.co.uk/dealermap/index.php
I'm looking into it for my car as seen some good results for people after googling it.

would it be cheeky to ask how much depreciation has crystalised over the first 7 months?
I looked at some of the valuations on the web and they seemed to show after one year a value significantly less than 20k - it made me wonder if there are some bargains to be had.

I bought MY R36 on tuesday, BISCAY BLUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's fantastic:biglaugh:. It is very fast. 4 ways to change gear & I have no problem with any of them. So many goodies including DVD player as part of the touch screen sat nav. Ask me a question & I will answer it if possible but NOT fuel consumption (yet). When I come back down to earth I just might talk about economy:D:p;). Wish I knew how to upload the pics:zx11:
Pics are there for anyone to view. Is there an eighth heaven????

awesome car, congrats on the purchase
for pics you can use a hosting site like:
http://photobucket.com/
then all you do is create an account and then upload your photos there
the next step is to copy and paste the IMG code when you place the mouse over one of your uploaded pics and paste them into your forum message
I look forward to them

How long have you had your R36 Dave? I haven't had a problem with mine yet but perhaps that's because I'm still in the running myself in period yet!!

Hi there!
New to the forum, had a TTS on order but Audi kept messing me around. A mate of mine is into all things Audi/VW/Skoda, worked on an R36 and recommended it to me. When I looked into it I decided that was the car for me so cancelled the Audi and just picked up my shiny new R36 yesterday!! Absolutely awesome!! Real bargain too (at least I think it was!!)
Am now thinking about re-map/exhaust but there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of people who know anything about it but surely this is the place! If anyone knows anything please let me know!!

HI & WELCOME TO AN EXCLUSIVE CLUB, THERE ARE VERY FEW OF US!!
I BOUGHT MY R36 IN JULY & I HAVE YET TO SEE ANOTHER ONE.
REVO DO A VERY GOOD REMAP, BUT CAN YOU DO IT UNDER WARRANTY?:o
THE SAME WITH EXHAUSTS.
I AM WAITING FOR A REPLY FROM VW RACING, TO FIND OUT IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE WITHOUT AFFECTING THE WARRANTY. :beerchug:

Good luck then. I have been looking for months. There are superchargers (about £6000)that will give over 400bhp & turbo's (£25000)that will give over 500bhp, but you can kiss goodbye to any warranty.
Accelleration is fantastic:biglaugh: look at mine:D.

Staying on the warranty theme I have a call in to Superchips to see if there is a bluefin option. Will keep you posted. No luck on the exhaust yet. Milltek have said they have no plans to produce an R36 exhaust, anyone with any other ideas?
One other question someone may be able to answer is what other cars use this engine? I know the V6 superb has a de-tuned version but have also heard (although it may be wishful thinking) that Porsche use this lump too??

Apparently, so I was informed, this is a detuned racing engine!!!!!! I thought ALL Porsche engines were flat sixes:aargh4:. All the sound tracks I have heard on UTUBE for Porsches are flat 6's and sound nothing like the R36 with a none standard exhaust.
Anyway, enough of that, keep up the good word and keep looking:beerchug:
