God 3 years ago you would have had a tape player and not a CD. You do not get everything do you!!! Unless you pay!

Mine was over £20k and doesn't have cruise control - and I'm glad. :)

Its not meant to be a critism of audi, my mate keeps saying my MK6 golf is expensive at 14200, and he paid 16200 for the audi, im not bothered about cruise control but for 2000 more mine has nearly as many toys, and its a better car, he has the old 1.9 diesel engine like a tractor

Audi have different toys at different trims same as VW, the Sport may not have cruise control but it will look sportier, have sports seats, larger alloys and lower springs over the SE trim which prob has DIS, better radio and better climate control.

Incidentally the website list price of the A3 1.9TDIe Sport is £17,070 basic so he did negotiate or is it an ex-demo?
The 1.9TDI may be old but it is economical and fairly bullet proof.

I agree that a Golf is better value for money vs the A3 if you're not after the 'Audi' image/looks - same with a Fabia over both of them - depends what you want from a car though and if we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place indeed.

u can have it re-tro fitted anyway. Besides in the Audi range you can spend up to £40k and still not get it. It's not the end of the world. I had the choice to have it fitted, but found it pointless. Most my journeys r around a built up city. The only motorway i touch is the M25 and it has too much stop/start to be able to use it. Glad i didn't op for it.

I do agree with your criticism though. My mate has a £9000 toyota yarris. Who has quite a lot of toys and buttons in his car. Whereas mine has a lot of toys but just arn't on display like the yarris. And obv for the £23k price tag I had to individually purchase each toy. Whereas he got a lot for that price and wern't options. He said 'it's a nice car, but don't think i'll pay £23k for it.' Don't get me wrong, but there is something about japanese cars I don't like. Everything is too bold, plasticky and in your face. Whereas in the Audi, it's not. All buttons, dash units are all neatly displayed, trimmed and laid out. Then there is the outside design, i like it's sporty look and lines that start from the front of the wing right to the back of the car. Your mainly paying for a brand though. So golf, fabia are all in the same group with diff price levels.

it was a deal the garage had on for 16200, i like the a3, its just not got 2000 worth of kit on, i would have had the 2.0 tdi golf with the new engine

to be honest, if someone was going for an SE A3, i would advise they got the Golf. As you get more car. Unless his A3 has some kit on it, may be not £2000 worth but a fair amount. The A3 would be best. If it was basic...like no bose sound, auto lights/rain packs, etc! Then the golf. As you would get it new and could spec it up more than what the value price of the A3 is.

Yes, Audis are expensive, that's not news.

Audi owners obviously feel it's worth paying more for the looks/image/build quality.

Besides, I don't believe Skodas or even Golfs are up to the standard of Audi build quality.

I agree. I sat in a MK5 Golf GTI and wasn't impressed whatsoever.

Actually, my friends at VW HQ tell me the Skoda has the best build quailty of the VW Audi SEAT Skoda stable as it built in the newest factory on the newest production line. I agree the Audi uses better materials for the trim etc so it will have a high percieved quality to the customer/driver.

Reminds me of my mate blathering on that I drive a jumped up Skoda.

If I recall- VAG bought Skoda, not the other way round so I keep telling him he is driving a cheapskate's Audi :biglaugh:
