Morning all
My mum asked me a question the other day that I didnt know the answer to!
Basically, on signs on the Motorway (and even normal signs) there are now these little yellow and black triangles and circles.
Anyone have any idea what these are for!?
They are "permanently signed diversions".
When the M'way is closed for whatever reason, these signs are already in place
to divert the traffic

Thanks Kite!
Does the shape make a difference?
One would be "westbound the other "eastbound,
So the signs are in place for a complete closure.

I had no idea what they meant either!
I keep seeing the one with a black box on a yellow background near me.

i followed one once and it took me a beautiful coastal way, always thought they were kinda 'scenic route' signs... not many motorways near me either:p

THey use them for 'Holiday routes' down this way, just to spread the traffic off the main road.
TBH i was driving to work yesterday and was thinking,as you do, and there are so many signs up now you just end up ignoring them.....there are bloody thousands of them....information overload:aargh4:

a slip road near me was notorious for people overshooting it and ending up in the field by the t-junction end of it. there happened to be about 30-40 different signs in 100m saying no parking, motoways speed ends now, new spped limit, road splitting etc etc... then one day ALL the signs were removed and no one crashed for ages, untill one day when lots of new shiny signs were put up and people started crashing again. take that as you will, methinks information overload.... will take a photo if i am not driving an remember.

I know what you mean about the more signs more crashes theory, a road i drive on mostly everyday to get from whitby to scarborough has a few tight bends, therefore the nannystate we are in now put signs up saying max speed 30mph (when they can be easily dont at 50mph)
So people see the sign and think MAX speed and to avoid a crash they go about 25mph, therefore causing a lot of rear enders as thats just too bloody slow on a 60mph road!

tight bends,
On a road down this way, they have put rumble strip lines on a bad corner to warn that the corner is sharp...they are so close to the corner they actual make the car slide in the corner!!!:aargh4:

Ha bets thats fun when the frost starts to lay!
In the paper last week there was a 17 yr old lad who rolled his 2.0 focus, ending up with bad injuries, i went to the same place where he crashed to have a look, i would not call it no more curve in the road so yeah i think i understand the signs in the respect of young drivers, all the gear but no idea!

there's a similar set of these on a road heading up towards pontins & haven in prestatyn.
Placing rumble strips on a road coming from national speed limit to a 30mph limit, i understand.
but placing them on the other side, going from 30>national.....
