View Full Version : Question Discount on new S3?

I am looking in to purchasing a S3 Sportback, and wondering if anyone has got good discount on one. I know times are hard for car sales, just how desparate are they?
I live in Aberdeen and Aberdeen Audi have always been quite tight on there discount. I have had a good look about on the net and got:
S3 sportback in Sprint blue with Aluminium roof rails
Motorlogix.com quoted £25820 + fee of £150-350
Broadspeed.com quoted £26039 otr.
Whats the chances of audi matching this, as would be easier to trade in with them. I've seen quotes on this site of people getting up to 11% discount plus good trade-in, is this realistic?

No chance,S3 very sought after. When we get any Rs model or s as a used vehicle they sell very quickly and there seems to be no recession on rs models believe me

i really think its dealer and location dependent. Because a few dealers in my area are selling 08 S3's for under £23k. Believe it or not...and was gutted when i saw it (especially straight after ordering a new car) a 58'plate all equipped new S3 3-dr for £22500!! I paid that just for a new 09 1.4 s-line a3! ...well slightly more. Although it was red...to me red cars are just unlucky...so perhaps a sign?
But on the other hand the last poster is prob right...you may get a bob off the new s3 sportback, but it wont be much. Especially with them not having a huge demand right now. Your best off with a used version or ex-demo then you'll be more likely to get more of a discount because they just want to shift the used stock. A member on this forum called 'onemanparty' has a S3 sportback and hasn't had it for too long, so he might be able to help you more. (well he had an s3 sportback before he got the A5)
Audi may be able to match prices. And those seem sorta realistic. Shop around. Come out of scotland and call dealers across the UK. Try some around london too! Your prob best with the counties around london and london. Give them a call and some figures. Also the way your going to pay for it matters too. Is it going to be on a PCP? If so its likely because in the long run they make more money from you in interest, whereas outright they don't.
At the moment its a win-win situation. Because the S models are also selling hot cakes though (in the used market) because people can now afford them because of the depreciation on them. However re-sale on them at a trade-in price is awful! I reckon you could get the S3 for £27k or slightly under. As mentioned, just phone around and ask. Negotiate aswel. It worked for me. Once they got to an ok figure i pushed them down by saying, if your gonna give me an offer, and i was going to give you the credit card right now, could you possibly offer me a better price than that? Also don't be surprised if they try and push you onto a 4yr contract for that price your willing to pay (thats if your going on a PCP) but all depends on your circumstances, how much you want the car.

Thanks for that, will be going in on saturday as local dealer has a s3 in avalible for test drive. I did notice when i bought my A4 that the were very tight on the discount but did give me top price for my vw R32 trade in.
R32 to A4 tdi, now want back to something quick again.
I really thought that in the current climate that they would be quite eager for a sale, looks like i could be wrong.

Problem is the VAG group are in a better position than most to not offer a discount in this climate. As mentioned phone round all the Audi dealers in the UK, and I mean all, when you find the cheapest haggle, haggle, haggle and then haggle some more. Once they go as low on price as possible then go for the kill, so a full tank of petrol, car mats, etc, etc, etc,as its new get as many extras as you can because there is where you will get your money back.

Give Dundee Audi a ring, ask to speak to John Norrie and see what discount he can do for you. Infact, tell him Scott Andrews (who ordered a White A3 Black Edition) told you about him. I won't get anything, but he may remember that I've recently bought a new car from him and give you a good discount. Dundee offered me the best price - despite being in Cheshire and having the car transported to me. :)

Cheers for that Scott, will see how i get on this weekend in aberdeen. I have twice bought a car in Dundee a Type-r and a R32. And to be honest I did get a good deal in Dundee and the service was miles better than anywhere else.

Hi all, sorry to be late getting on this thread but I am (and have recently posted on the same subject) in the process of buying an S3 Sportback too, sprint blue with a bundle of options. I noticed someone posting a 9% discount and wondering what others have acheived?
I went into a couple of dealerships today and I mentioned I have seen a massive discount on www.autoebid.com (http://www.autoebid.com). One of the dealerships are due to call me back tomorrow once he knows his allocation, how much discount he can provide (if not better the price quoted) and a possible finance deal although I said this is unlikely to deter me to purchasing outright - looking for the best deal, i.e low apr and big discount if I can get one.
Good luck to everyone purchasing one and please let me know how you got along and whether I can pursue a similar avenue.
Cheers

I must admit I did have that prob a few times, but usually just call a couple of times and you'll get through to him. Tell the lady on the phone that you asked him to call you back and he didn't.

I haven't had a chance yet, as been very busy at work. Hoping to look in to it asap. Also trying to save a bit of cash so don't have to take finance if possible.
Out of interest what sort of apr% is audi ofering just now??

I am in the same position - I would like to fund it the purchase as much as possible and finance only a small portion. Docklands Audi offered me 10% but this is far too much.

I went for a quote at Stansted Audi. Offered about 8%! Too much still. (they are both in the same group.)
I recommend giving Walton Audi (surrey), a call and get them to beat Docklands Audi. I think they are expensive, brought a car from them before.

Nice discount there. How did you find AutoeBid in terms of buyer experience? Did you actually get the price they offered? They do display the cheapest prices out of all the online brokers out there, but I think this price is not guaranteed? It depends if the dealership will actually match the price, am I correct in thinking this? Did you haggle further with the dealership?
I'm thinking on giving AutoeBid a try (looking at A3 2.0 S-line) but not convinced by their website! Maybe I should speak to someone there...

Hi,
Autobid. OK here's my experience.
You can have a bidding window between 2 and 10 days. Their recommendation (when i spoke to them on the phone) is for 5 days although I went for the full 10 days. Autobid will take a retainer fee (mine was ~ £360) before bidding commences. Autobid have a minimum discount price which if the bidding does not reach I will not get charged. In my case, it didn't however autobid were quick to contact me afterward to inform me of it not being reached at which point I was free to walk away and I could've got my money (retainer) back. Although bidders didn't reach the lowest discount advertised by Autobid, Autobid's discounts are governed by past experiences\discounts, so for a previously auctioned S3 Sportback S-tronic they were able to provide an indicative price for any future discounts. Hope that makes sense so far. I had a 24 hour window to either accept the lowest bid which was some £800 off the minimum quoted discount and pay the retainer\booking fee or walk away. I decided to go-ahead with the lowest available bidder which infact is a reputable Audi Dealership. During my travels, many of the Audi Dealers down south know nothing about autobid so it is obviously dependant on the Audi franchise to participate in autobid, since I was showing the dealerships down south my autobid evidence but they were either unable to match the price or didn't hear of them and would shrug them off with some derogatory statement . Generally my experience is good, no complaints and it has worked to a similar selling model to drivethedeal from which we purchased a car last year. you pay the internet broker your fee and then your in touch with the main dealer. My only concern before using autoebid was not knowing if i was going to be in touch with a main dealer or some back street car dealer whom was selling a new audi... (i know this is probably impossible for someone to do but imagination runs wild sometimes!!). All in all, I thought I would give autoebid a try irrespective of whether I was going to go ahead with the final deal with them or not.. the only thing I would've lost out on was forfeiting a 360 broker fee.
I'm glad I did use autobid as bidders are able to add comments at the time of bidding (although you cannot tell who the bidders are - it only shows a 'dealer id').
I am about to send back the forms to the main dealer tomorrow and I'm happy to speak to them about if they are prepared to do a similar deal for anyone else soon to make an imminent purchase, i.e without having to via autoebid for anyone.. Failing that, I have been in touch with two other dealers whom definately were prepared to shake hands on a 10% discount, if not slightly more, offer but please PM me if you would like to know whom as I prefer to act responsibily\profressionally rather than making them 'public domain'. Hope ya'll understand.
Hope that helps and answers any questions but feel free to ask anymore.
Good luck in the meantime.

you're correct, price is not guaranteed. And know I didn't haggle any further since I was reguarly told I would struggle to get a further ounce of discount out of a dealer... Anyhow, I thought 11.5% was quite healthy if you don't mind me saying.
Yes, do give them a call, they are quite helpful and friendly on the phone.

As your car would have to have come from a UK dealer unless you imported?? I do not see how
Brokers get there cars from dealers

I got just over 9% discount off the list price...some might say thats not bad others might differ. The situation im in i that i contacted many dealers all of which eithe said ill call you back or erm its list price or didnt call back at all...thats just my experience. Anyway i stumbled across new car discount asked for a quote got the email and guess what they never called. So i decided i would call them and guess what they never answered 3 seperate times and i immediately gave them a wide berth for that reason.
Just as i gave up i came across orangewheels who only deal with audi, vw, volvo and jaguar. Found my car found the discounted prices and after i emailed a qute got a call within the hour. Very helpful they explained they would put me in touch with the dealer closest to me that they use...York Audi. I was told that the dealers arent interested in average joe wanting a car as they cant keep up supply for a3's therefore can pick and choose if they offer discounts. This mirrored my experience exactly. Anyway the deal with orangewheels is that they use the business/fleet sales managers to deal with their orders hence the nice discount that is guaranteed.
Could still trade my old 07 reg in early used audi finance and had better service all over the phone no hassle at all. After 2 days of no pressure just help from the dealer i decided to swap my pcp early. Collect 1st sept.
In my experience going to the dealer is a waste of your time you dont even get so much as a coffee as they cant be *****. All i can say is to the dealers who lost out on my order HA HA!
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Still doing my research and sums but will be ready to take the plunge soon! If I ordered now I think I'll be looking at 59 plate delivery. What shocked me most when visiting my local dealer was the lack of acknowledgment of my existence from the sales people and when I did manage to talk to someone they didn't seem interested at all - the reason I am exploring the online broker route!

Do what i did and ignore the dealers i spent weeks ringing and visiting only to be told well call you back etc etc...surprise surprise nothing cam e of any enquiry when i was ready to put my money where my mouth is so went to the internet and just ordered mine with a healthy 9% discount far better than any dealer who did offer me a price (well list price)
I bought mine via my local dealer through orangewheels.co.uk
Give them a try theyre very efficient and friendly.

Good luck with whatever decision you make. There is a certain dealership who has been calling me persistently and are very responsive. They were very keen on my business and I am sure they would be willing to do you a deal. I will PM you their details. They are very very helpful.
I hope it helps.

so chief, ive noticed a lot of people are cutting this middle man out now. Seems like too many people suffer the agro of trying to get a deal. But noticed many customers are using sites like the one you did to get a list price discount. Which is guaranteed right?
They give you the discount, but the finance, warranty and ownership of the car is through audi and Volkswagen finance? Orangewheels for example just get you a discount?

There are plenty of on line brokers and having never used one before and being rodded off by every audi dealer i called no matter how "yes sir ill come straight back to you" attitude i cautiously shopped around and only picked the biggest on line brokers i could find ie drive the deal, uk new car discount expecting to be given the biggest discount and the best service...how wrong i was drive the deal seem to be a little bit yeah what do you want and not interested in talking you through the process...this is my personal experience of course....uk new car discount i emailed for a confirmed price based on the quote on the internet....
Got my confirmation email and guess what nothing else. So i thought well if it means that i get a good discount ill ring and guess what i called 3 seperate times only for the phone to ring and ring and never be answered. Now if a broker cant be bothered to a) reply to an email and b) cant be bothered to answer the phone alarm bells rang big time.....again only my personal experience. Stumbled across orangewheels emailed for a quote and within an hour got a call at 5.30pm when you expect people to have left. The rest ive already posted.
As for the price the discount is obviously negotiated between the selected audi dealer they use in whatever area of the uk you are and orangewheels obviously are paid once an order is made. All i would say is a) i never paid orangewheels b) they pass on your details to the local business development manager for the dealer selected c) all money is paid direct to the audi dealer and nothing to orangewheels d) all franchised dealer finance package and warranty are alll through the audi dealer
The best way i can describe it is that its as if i walked into the dealer im buying my vehicle off sat down negotiated a deal paid my deposi and ordered the car only to colllect from the dealer with the same experience as i did last time when my A3 was in stock. Now im not saying ive got the best deal in history nor am i saying that the broker i used is the best thing since sliced bread and theyre doing me a favour. Theyre not but all i would say to people is try going to my local dealer ask to buy a car ask for a £2k discount and watch the response....:zx11:
