I took delivery of a 2009 model A4 B8 1.8T with CVT in February. Today I went to check the oil level via the MMI and received a message stating that this information is currently not available.

I followed the instructions regarding warming the engine, parking on a level surface and turning off the engine for 2 minutes etc. but every time I try to check the oil level I just receive the same message.

Any suggestions on how to get the oil level display back to normal would be greatly appreciated.

I picked mine up on Monday [new] and it does exactly the same thing.

Thanks for the info. Funny thing is, when I first got the car, everything displayed fine. This apparently has only developed within the last few days. Hopefully, for both of us, someone will come up with an answer.

I find you have to drive around for a while before it shows up. Don't know the exact timing but mine seems to appear at around 15 minutes of driving.

Thankyou. I will try driving the car again tomorrow and see if anything appears, although I have driven the car today for around an hour or so and nothing changed. When you drive for around 15 minutes, do you leave the MMI display on CAR ----> OIL? Does the oil level get displayed after you restart the engine or while the motor is still running?

I keep going back to CAR-OIL until it shows up. No need to restart the engine it should show while it is running.

Here's an idea! Why don't Audi fit a thin tube going down into the sump with a metal rod in it. You could then pull the rod out from time to time and check to see if there was enough oil in the engine. ;)

I really like my new A4 but there are some little things that bug me and not having a dipstick is one of them.

Yep! I couldn't agree more. I naively opened the bonnet to check the dipstick and shock, horror, discovered that there wasn't one .... just a cap on the tube where the dipstick should be. I also love my Audi, but I think for the money we pay for these cars, that they could stretch it and provide a dipstick. I think that they are dipsticks for not providing one!

With me driving the dipstick is behind the wheel! :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

Hi. I think you are lucky to have a way of checking your oil level. Sometimes new technology isn't necessarily the best.

I've now driven the car several times since I initially discovered the problem with the display of the oil level and still cannot display the oil level graph.

I was wondering if there might be any joy if I was to reset the service interval screen. Is that likely to reset the oil level display?

All suggestions would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't reset it. I'd simply drive to my local dealer and ask them to look at it while I waited. If they says there's a problem then I'd arrange to book it in.

I guess you're right. That's what I will do.

Good luck with your new car!

Just so you all know .... I went for another drive yesterday (I've driven it several times since the last post) et voila ... the oil level is being displayed again!

Just wondering how long this will last. Doesn't seem terribly reliable.

Can you have a look for a part number on it?

Also do you buy the car new? If not it could have been added by the previous owner.

I thought the oil guage option was on all B8s

The oil level for mmi display is not standard for all 8k platform hence the dipstick
There have been a few defective bonnet switches which prevent the oil display from functioning

Much as I love my B8 there are a couple of things that really niggle me, the lack of dipstick, the thoroughly ridiculous clutch pedal that has to absolutely be to the floor before starting and the key that won't come out unless you patiently wait for it to click. This is change for change sake. Vorsprung etc etc bo*****s.

I still think my B6 was better.

Yes at last a B8 OWNER who longs for the simplicity and reliability of the mighty B6.LOL

I agree....iv been in with this same problem and there is a dip stick under the bonnet but its hard to find and its only the tube Audi have to bring there stick out the workshop to manually check it..

Open your bonnet and close it properlly then drive then car for 15mins this will reset the ami sensor giving a true reading
