Hi,

I have just taken delivery of a 2007 B6 Passat Estate with the MFD2 nav system and 6 disc CD changer, but unfortunately the AUX in socket option was not ticked by the original owner.
I would like to be able to make use of the AUX in on the MFD2 to be able to run my iPod whilst still retaining use of the 6 disc changer if needed. (i.e. I'm not interested in the official VW ipod connection).

My question is, is there a plug/lead adapter available to connect into the rear of the MFD2 and then run the lead to somewhere in the car where I can install a 3.5mm stereo jack socket?
I am happy to solder up a plug/cable/socket arrangement if necessary, but I would really need the correct plug to fit on the back of the MFD2 to do this. Any part numbers anyone can supply would be really helpful.

As an aside, I was thinking of installing the 3.5mm socket in the armrest compartment, as I believe this is where they are factory fitted on later Passats - could someone confirm if this is true?

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks,

VW1

Hi ledburyloafer, thanks for confirming that.

Anyone know what the VW part number would be for the AUX plug/lead that would connect to the rear of the MFD2 unit?

Thanks

i don't know about the 'proper' aux in part number, but if you want to make it yourself you will need a 3B7 035 447 A which is the connector for the back of your stereo, and a 000 979 018 which is a single lead with a connector at both ends. you just cut the lead in two, plug each of your two cables into the relevant slots on the connector and solder them to your aux in wire. reading your post again you already have the cd changer so you won't even need the connector, just the wire which will cost you a quid or something silly. i can't remember which two pins they need to go into on the connector but the pinout is printed on the top of the radio anyway.

I have the sat nav unit, not sure which one? On mine I have the cd changer in the glove box but it also says it has a seperate aux on the menu. Could I attach a ipod to this?

If so what would I need?

Also the sat nav only operates on part of the post code, is it possible to upgrade this to full postcode with a new disc? Or is it the unit that controls this. Not a huge problem, only when your looking for a unnamed road or you don't know the road name!

Pioneer do one for their unit's, it's a 3.5mm and USB to Ipod one, and Asda stock an unbranded one for £8. hth.

Yes you can make one up with the part numbers I posted earlier in this thread (that is exactly how I have mine set up, cd changer plus those part nos. for the aux in) or i posted on another post recently with the official vw part, not home brew, which costs about £13 and so might be easier. Note that both these solutions provide a 3.5 jack input as opposed to some kind of ipod connector
