AMI - I pod problems ?

Has anyone else had any problems with the AMI not recognising their I Pod ?

Sometimes it connects straight away and works fine - other times the screen shows the message " Unable to read from connected device"

The I pod itself 'locks up' and I have to reset it.

( I have a March 2009 car)


Any thoughts how to get round this would be appreciated.

Most likely cause would be conflicting firmware versions between the media player and the AMI,you can update the firmware of the ami with the usb lead which should have been supplied from launch

So erase all data from your memory stick and download the file
connect the AMI usb lead into the AMI port and then connect the usb stick
the AMI will up load the latest firmware if its required which will be confirmed on the MMI display
disconnect and connect your media player and test
if your still having issues book the car into Audi or just ask them to do the update for you

The only cable I was given was the one that connects the AMI to the I pod.

Should I have been given another one ?

I have an 8GB I pod Nano using software 1.0.3 ( the latest version) this is not listed on the link you supplied ( which is dated July 2008) could this be the problem ?

Not sure what AMI software version I have - will try and check tomorrow

The AMI leads are now supplied as a pack so you get the standard ipod and additional usb.
Try another ipod thats approved if possible and contact the selling dealer to discuss the usb lead,i would expect them to supply the lead FOC and also you can play music from the usb as well as midi usb leads for some phone music players are available and even bluetooth dongles.

How long have they been supplied as a pack?
I.e. A USB lead included when you order an IPOD lead?

Not sure but all march units we sold were supplied with the new part number which includes the usb lead as the old part number for the single lead has been superseded to the twin pack.It may be a dealer a dealer decision at point of sale because the cars are not supplied from the factory with the leads they are provided by the parts dept

ok, no point in going back moaning to the dealer about the car I bought in December then! It would be a bit cheeky anyway as they gave me the lead FoC anyway!
