Tiny Niggles...

Hi there

I am taking my passat to the dealership next week to have the creaky suspension fixed. At the same time they are going to re-sit the rear door trim as it is a bit loose and I'm doing no messing myself!

However today I noticed a soft 'knocking' noise coming from somewhere near the glovebox... when the car was stationery! i have tracked the noise down to be associated with the heater. when i turn it off, no sound. when i turn to position 1, it makes the random knocking sound.

Is this something else to flag up to the dealership? I have a VW warranty so not worried about costs, but is this something to do with the unit under the glovebox, and if so has anyone any tips I can give to the VW garage?

How did you get them to sort the creaking suspension? is this being done under an extended VW warranty you took out or have you jut asked them to do it another way?

Id like to know as i suffer with the same problem from the front of my 55 plate TDI Sport.

Its not a major issue but it would be good to get it fixed if VW can do it for me without having to take out one of their expensive extended warranties

hi, i bought it used a couple of months ago, and it came with a years VW warranty - so i was lucky there!

The creaking front suspension (if it's the noise when going over speed bumps?) is cured by fitting new bottom wishbone arms which incorporate upgraded bushes.

I've extended my VW warranty by two years (we only get two years' initial guarantee here).

Any luck identifying or fixing the 'knocking' noise? I just bought a 06 at 115000 kms (70k miles) with climatronic and I experience the same noise. At random intervals I get 4 or 5 soft 'knocks' from the glove box area. I get the noise stationary and at low speeds, presumable it's always there only covered by engine noise at higher speeds.

I'll see if playing with the ECC controls give the same clues as you got.

Aircon perhaps? - mine lets me know it's there at times.
