Hi all, I'm after some advise i have a A4 53 plate 1.9 Tdi Avant
Today lost all power, nothing when throttle pressed, engine running at
about 1000rpm. ESP & flashing glow plug lights on.
Turned ignition off & back on all lights off, pressed accelerator & lights back on & no power.
Called AA & they came out & checked it out saying that no error codes in "brain" & that it was a faulty connection on throttle peddle & i need to get it changed it is a common fault on A4 & VW.
Anyone else exprienced this? ANy idea on costs?
Check your brake lights are working..

Yep all brake lights are working fine.
You need a scan with vagcom to see what faults are logged.

Hi The AA man did connect his PC to the car & said there were no fault codes is that the same?
How do i get to vagcom?
Looking at your first post the AA man found "no faults" but told you its the throttle.
Vagcom is software for VAG cars.
Look in the vagcom section for a member in your area who will scan your car.

Hi,
I experienced the same trouble. I was in the middle of a trip when, just after an overtake, the ESP light appeared and the glow plug light started flashing. Whatever I pushed the gas pedal, the engine was only revving at around 1200rpm.
I concluded I had a problem on pedal or something, and the ECU switched to 'limp home' mode. Even after repeated switch ON/OFF the key, the lamps always started to light at the first push of pedal.
Helplessly, I continued my trip, in limp home mode. I even reached 70Km/h in the 6th gear (!!!) down a slope :biglaugh:
However, once I reached the destination, I did another try (turned the key OFF/ON), and the trouble disappeared. Moreover, no fault was memorized in the ECU
So finally it seemed a temporary problem, somewhat related to the pedal sensor or something.
Do you still have the problem?
Cheers
I was told that cars go into limp mode particularly Audi's , is caused by the boost control switch. Whenever I go on long journey it goes on to Limp Mode.
