Lost my Key lastnight.

Still got one spare flip and a plastic one. But Remote locking doesnt work on the spare flip key.

Any ideas why remote locking wouldnt work - I have changed the battery.

Also Just belled Audi Liverpool - They want £160 for new coded flip key:-( Anybody got any idea about getting this from elsewhere?

Cheers

the main worry is that someone else has found your key and will use it to steal your car, and there will be no sign of forced entry when the cops find it and your insurance company wont pay out. so you have to ask yourself, do you need 1 new key, or 2 with a new lockset?
im sure someone else will know a cheaper way to get a key to fit your car. how lost is the other key?

David you need to recode the spare key to the ECU. Easy process-

1. Put key in ignition and twist so the warning lights come on
2. Hold either the lock or unlock button down for 20 seconds (nothing happens so count to 20)
3. Should now unlock the doors etc. remotely

Haha, like it "how los tis the other key"

Unfortunately I gotta feelin it was picked out my pocket. Was in a few boozers lastnite and went the LFC V Chelsea game, so was in crowds of people throughout.

I wasnt driving tho, so my car was miles away at home, and no way of tracing the keys back to me (ie no address on em)

So I'm pretty happy that it wont get stolen. But thanks for your advice.

A couple of old posts which may be of use - sorted my spare key for a Golf MkIV

1.

I had the same problem - bought my car from an independant (small) dealer with only one key. I got a key fob from ebay with blank key in it. You need to be careful as there are several types - 2 button, 3 button, various transmitter radio frequencies. I then took it and the car to my local locksmith (Bolton Lock Company, 354-360 Manchester Road, Westhoughton, Bolton, Lancashire BL5 3JT, Tel: 01942 811186 sorry, no use if you're not in NW) who cut the key profile and reprogrammed the fob. Ordinary key cutters can't usually cut these keys because it won't fit their machine's grips. Bolton Lock told me they can reprogramme most VW Golf keys but not all; more problems with newer ones. Mine's an 'S' reg. so you may be OK. The local VW dealer quoted me something like £150.00 for a new key and I ended up spending less than £50.00.

2.

A bit more info now I've got two key fobs to look at.. The key fob part number and frequency are printed or stamped onto it. To find them, pull the two halves of the fob apart as though you're going to change the battery. Look at the half with the buttons on, in the area which was covered by the other half. You should see a part number like HLO 1JO 959 753 A and a radio frequency like 433MHz. If you get one from ebay, make sure these are the same. I have one as above (original key) and a newer one, same part number except last letter which is N. This one came from an ebay seller with blank blade and was cut and programmed by my locksmith. The older one has oval buttons, the other squarish buttons but both work fine. There seem to be plenty for sale on ebay at the moment, price varies but in £10.00-£30.00 range (low if you're a lucky bidder. Blank blades can be bought separately for about a fiver if needed but get one with a blank if you can. Finally, the locksmith kept my car for a morning to programme it, maybe to fit in with other jobs.

i thought if i asked , where did you loose it? i would appear in the stupid questions thread. the thing is, sometimes you get the answer cant find it, and its somewher in the house, or, dropped it in the river and cant be bothered to dive in to get it, or as in your case, nicked. i suppose some scumbag was out in the carpark seeing if he (or she) could find your car. hopefully with the other info, you should be able to get sorted a bit cheaper.

Cheers for all the help guys.

My orginal Key has been returned tho - taxi driver found it and return it round to ours.

Delighted!

I've still got some weird ignition/immoboliser problem, car starts for couple of seconds and then cuts out, can happen up to 4 times - its as if it cant read the code from the key.

Theyre making cars to complicated man!

Arrghh. Used car ownership hey.

Anyways thanks

I know you have found the key now... good news... but some advice for the above poster.

ONE THING TO ADD....YOU DONT NEED A NEW LOCK SET..

Go to Audi.. advise you have lost the other key and they will disable it from working on the car...

Hi batteryman

Would you happen to have the details of the ebay trader you got your bits and pieces from?

Many thanks
