Wouldn't like to comment on the suspension mods, if its a 4motion wouldn't it have sports suspension already!!!
On the A3 wheel you find the PCD in 100mm where as the A4/Passat is 112mm. all 5 stud patterns of course.

While the A4 stuff may fit, why not go for Passat specific stuff to eliminate any headaches?
The V6 is heavy so again, make sure you get springs/shocks made for the V6 model.
Newer A3 wheels will fit, but watch out for the high offsets.
Personally I'd work on the handling before changing the wheels. I lowered and fitted a front brace before changing wheels and was happy with the way it went.

Offset is the way a wheel sits in relation to the hub. Early Passats have an offset of 45, later ones have 35-38.
The newer Audi A3s have an offset of 56. You'll need spacers to push the wheels out otherwise they may foul on suspension components.
I made my strut brace using parts from an A6/S4 and the instructions here;
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel32.shtml
Using these parts
1 x A6 bracket - 4B0 803 357A
1 x A6 bracket - 4B0 803 358A
1 x A4/S4 bar - 8D0 805 645A
4 x Bolts - N 090 378 2
and also what is diff between 4motion and synchro????????????
cheers

Not at all, the hardest part is redrilling the bar and even that's fairly simple
