I'm getting a strange noise when my turbo kicks in, a kind of loud release of air, turbo obviously seems to kick in but feels a bit sluggish and i can't visibly see any loose pipes , on top of the track rod ends both sides and both the cv joints another one for my mechanic to get his hands on my money. your help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Just a bump in case anyone is having similar problems, the car got worse and worse, took it to my mechanic who told me the cat was blocked and the pressure had blown the turbo to intercooler pipe, he's cleared the blocked cat and ordered the pipe for friday. turbos back still a swooshing sound because of the pipe being taped up.

Sorry but this is not adding up...

Cat blocked? = no exhaust flow through = no turbo spooling up = no boost.
Therfore how does a slow spooling turbo generate enough pressure to blow off a pipe which stays on when the turbo is working normally?

I suggest the pipe has just failed through old age etc or has become detached due to a weak / loose clamp and all the oil in the inlet system assisting the hose to part.

New one on me - clearing a blocked Cat, I thought they were a sealed item....

our cats get blocked with cat crunchies, this leads to a back pressure problem.

:biglaugh: as izalman says, a cat will only block if it breaks up. then you need a new one. what you have is a knackered turbo pipe or sealing ring. quite a common fault really.

shame you couldn't tell me that when i posted the problem originally, I KNOW NOW that it's a " knackered pipe"
