Looking at a new black A4 - offered Audi protect and care and body care - are they worth it?

i had the autoglym finish if that what your talking about.
To be honest, im not convinced that they actually done anything as the iterior of the car had a what I can only describe as a boot print on the rear seat and the exterior had some sticky residue on the roof. (which I have only just managed to remove yesterday with boiling water)

you are supplied with a nice cleaning kit to continue the upkeep of your car, but thats not worth the 300 you pay.

It does however protect/insure the interior from any stain that cant be removed in the first 3 years.

I took out the Autoglym finish and GAP insurance which meant I was able to get a better discount, but not enough to cover the cost of the two products.

I would be interested to know if autoglym is supposed to protect/insure against stone chips, as I have found a few of them recently.

Thanks as always a timely reply. The autoglym finish was exactly what I was talking about.\

The Gap appears cheaper and possibly more comprehesive independently... do a quick google search. I believe the top gap package audi has goes as far as return to invoice cost (which may be a problem if the car was discounted heavily) whereas you can get full vehicle replacement insurance for under 300 online (ala).

I would not bother with the autoglym package. It's nothing that you coudln't do at home yourself for a lot cheaper! A good wax or sealant will give you better protection from the elements and will need to be applied 2 or 3 times per year. The autoglym will not protect from stone chips. I have not heard myuch about the interior but some 303 Fabric protector will help prevent stains. A couple of bottles will do the whole interior.

GAP - search around on the internet for the best price - it will be a lot cheaper than Audi!

I had AutoGlym on mine, but wouldnt pay the Audi dealer price. Secured an immediate discount by waiving a Halfords body services brochure in which they offer the same AutoGlym prep carried out at your home / office at a much lower price than the Audi Dealer was willing to quote.

If you buy the products together you get a nice discount which brings them in line with high street prices.
I preferred doing it this was as I can go back to audi for any of the problems.

The autoglym finish with audi also insures the seats against any staining or spillage if it doesn't come out.
While a can of scotch guard physically protects it for much less, you dont get the added benefit of a piece of paper stating that "if the scotch guard fails, not to worry, we'll replace/repair the fabric".

I think that they are worthwhile products that offer peace of mind. and like I say, brought together are reasonably competitive with a little audi markup for their trouble.

I would not say they only make a little as i think they make a killing, however as you say Jop it does give peace of mind which is why i went for it (supaguard version). When your paying out so much of you own cash any peace of mind is good.

Personally i find the exterior looks great with just a wash and shammy and the water beads constantly. The interior is extremely easy to clear up spills/marks.

Jop,

Which added products did you buy together?

GAP Insurance and Autoglym Body care.

I cant remember the exact price as its all worked then re-worked into the final figure.

Either way I was happy with the price I paid (or totally bamboozled by the salesman and his calculator)

Thanks Jop

Has anyone else taken out either the Audi or a 3rd party warranty/ gap etc? If so what are your experiences and how much ? In particular can you get cover so that the car can be serviced with Audi themselves?

With my last car (an A3) I took out the GAP insurance policy. I haggled them down to cost price though (less than half of the initial price) which meant that it was only about £30 different from the best I could get via the internet for a like for like policy. I figured that they are more likely to be easier to deal with than a 3rd party so I went for it.

No way I'd pay full price though.

Got my car autoglym treated. cant tell if its any good/better than non treated. Didnt get a piece of paper with 10 year guarantee. When asked at ********, was told that records kept on computer at autoglym.! Got talked into the GAP ins as was offered a good price of £249. Thought that was as good if not better than i could have got elsewhere.:biglaugh:

I think I ended up paying £189 for Audi gap with a return to invoice value of £16k and for a three year period. The cheapest I could get elsewhere was for about £150. Obviously cheaper policies could be had for less cover and a shorter period but like for like there wasn't much in it.

I've not used the autoglym sealent stuff before but I was offered supagard by audi for something like £395. I didn't go for it but bought a pack of the stuff (paint, wheel and carpet treatments) myself off ebay and applied them myself. It cost me the princly sum of £10! and took most of an afternoon to properly prepare the paintwork (clean, clay, polish etc etc) before I applied the supagard sealant but to be honst I probably did a better prep job that a deadler would have done and saved myself nearly £400 for the sake of a few hours one weekend. I had that car for nearly 3 years and the sealent was still in excellent condition when I sold it. I've already bought another pack to apply to my new A4 Avant that's getting delivered next week, and last weekend did the car I'm borrowing in the meantime as a thank you to my in-laws for lending it to me. Highly recommended (just not at audi prices).

Definitely better prep than a dealer! All it would get is a quick wash! Personally don't rate it though.
