I've searched this site many times looking for the answer to cure a persistent rattle coming from the glovebox/dashboard passenger side area.
My car has been to my local VW dealership in Leicester where they removed the glovebox and tightened an 'engine management' unit that lurks behind it. Did not fix it.
It then went to the VW dealership in Milton Keynes who had a go and replaced the glovebox itself. Did not fix it.
They had it back again and this time removed the dasboard and tightened all the fixing screws. Did not fix it.
I gave them one last chance and borrowed a courtesy vehicle and said I would return it when they had fixed the rattle! They lent me a Fox which must be the cheapest (and worst) car VW make, and I couldn't wait to get the 'Enterprise' back. They had my car over two days during which they replaced the dashboard itself!! SUCCESS...no more rattles and it's as if I have a new car.
Thank heavens for the VW warranty, it must have cost them around £1000 in claims I reckon.
Hope this helps someone else.

referring back to my original post, it does seem as though some rattles around the glovebox are the dash itself, nothing to do with the actual glovebox. So, yes I could probably solve my particular rattle by replacing the dash. But by wedging something between the glovebox side and the centre console, I fix it myself.

I know sometimes messing with the dash or replacing it can introduce far more rattles than one originally had. This was a particular hazard with my last Mazda 6.

Thanks for the post above too...

My Estate has a damn annoying squeak from the dash above the RHS of the glove box where the two dash surfaces meet, press on the dash and keep pressing and it stops!

It seems to start when the interior of the car warms up.

A visit to the dealer is planned - SOON!

I have (had!) lots of squeaks, I then started to use a Dry PTFE spray on all panels that meet each other and I now have a squeak free car:approve:. I even removed all the dash trim to stop the squeaks.

Still got the rattles mind you but they are next on my list
