Hi All,

Thought it would be interesting to hear what others have done to their A4. Please let us know and include the model/engine/year of your car, I will go first:

10) Moved reversing sensor speaker from under roof lid (stupid place to put it) to drivers foot well (much more sensible - I can now hear it!!!) - easy

I have to say wmccann you've been/being busy but the only one I would contemplate is the remap and you havn't done it!!! :biglaugh:

I can't be bothered with auto stuff, I like to be in control of wipers and lights.

Only mod I have made is

- upgrading the 16" to 17" wheels
- VCDS - numerous changes ie, auto locking, DIS changes to MPG calc and service interval and more....

- remap - best thing I ever did. 130bhp now to 162BHP.... :D

Curry hooks screw into the undrside of the rear shelf, they are spring loaded so fold away when not in use.
Stops the shoppin bags falling over in the boot.
They are available from your dealer....

Hi,

Are they easy to fit? i.e. do they just screw into pre-drilled holes in the boot? How many hooks can be fitted?

Does the back speaker (subwoofer) get in the way? Sorry about the questions!

I can't remember if the kit comes with captive nuts or just screwws in.
the holes are pre-drilled, you get 2 hooks with 2 hooks on each, if that makes sense. They are like upside down coat hangers.
I think its a top mod, stops the shopping rolling around the boot.

Just had a look in the boot for the holes. There are loads! Are these hooks actually for the cargo net? i.e. according to the manual, they're placed as far back as you can find holes to secure the net at the back. At the front there are points on either side where the net can be secured.

I can see on the right side where 1 hook would go, but on the opposite side there's no equivalent holes because the speaker is there.

The question is: where do you place the hooks at the speaker end? Near the front or at the back of the boot? In either case for the speaker side, the bag would be quite near if not touching the side of the inside boot.

No the hooks are not for the cargo net.
The shopping bags do touch the side of the boot, is that a problem ?

No prob at all. Where did you put them? At the back or front? Do you have a speaker on one side like me?

Yes I have a speaker under the shelf.
The hooks attach just inside the boot.

Mr_Meeks, I'm sure it would have been easier but not nearly as much fun!

The thing with this car was that it had only done 47 000km when I bought it, which is VERY low mileage for a diesel this age here in Finland where we have to pay extra car tax for a diesel. The other point was that my old B5 had been imported from Germany and it had an automatic tranny. Since autos are notoriously problematic, not too many Finnish dealers wanted to take it in a trade. The particular dealer I got my B6 from was willing to take it so I jumped at the chance!

In Finland and in Germany there are no "SE" or "Sport" models. They have the base model and the business model, which you can then accessorize as you like.

The puddle lights have been offered as a part of the "interior lighting pacakge" which also included FW lights, lighted vanity mirrors, illuminated air vents and business card / cup holders and door handles.

The same goes for the S-Line models. There have been several different S-Line packages, some which included the full works: interior and exterior, or you could just get the exterior package by itself and have standard or "Sport" interior. The main difference between the S-Line and the Sport interiors here were that that they had different trims and the S-Line had a perforated steering wheel and the text "S-Line" embossed onto the leather sport seats, where as the "Sport" model had standard sport seats.

RS4 RARB is the best mod for the B6. it totally transforms the handling. It just leaves the question why it isnt fitted as standard to the sport models.

Hi,

Value, shudder to think but most were bought on ebay (used parts) and then lots of labour (Auxilliary heater alone took approx 2 hours for wires, 6 hours for plumbing, 4 hours for fitting and 4 hours for fuel supply - total 16 hours!). Got a full loom from an A4 for €90 (unfortunately was a B7 not B6 so most connectors were different) this saved a lot in wires etc.

Smarttop should be your number one, best mod by far :) - though I do love my auto folding mirrors (fold when I switch off the power, open when I switch it back on again). Was not easy though, needed 2 timed relays and a normal relay to get it to work (and a few burnt out motors due to a "silly" mistake that I did not notice until it was too late!

1) Auto dimming rear view mirror - not too difficult but you have to lay the wires from the mirror to the switched power, reversing signal, earth and then the mirrors if you want that. Note I got mine from EBAY.COM - in the US they come as standard - seem to be lots of mirrors, A4, and A6 ones work fine. US ones also come with a compass built in.

For High line
Pin 1 - Range control Pin 4
Pin 2 - Ground
Pin 3 - T32B30
Pin 4 - wing mirrors
Pin 5 - wing mirrors
Pin 6 - T32b 19

For Low line
Pin 1 - Switched power - fuse S231
Pin 2 - Earth
Pin 3 - Pin 2 on reversing light switch (though you could run it back to the reversing light itself
Pin 4 - wing mirror
Pin 5 - Wing mirror
Pin 6 - central light pin 1 on single pin socket (switches off dimmed mirror when the light is on) this I remember was tricky as it is not standard in the light, essentially connect it to pin 4 with a diode so current travels to only from the light to the mirror.

2) TPMS - I got this from Kufatec, though you can get the parts yourself. (got extra sensors there recently for €10 euros each on ebay!). Note your instrument panel has to support it (mine didn't hence the upgrade to colour). if your car is 2005+ then you should be ok. I have a red display that will work with a petrol engine if you need one - up on ebay currently.

3) Auto wipers - I installed these ones: http://www.raintracker.com/ work well and will also do auto lights (you need a relay!!) if you don't want to fit OEM ones
4,6,7) Easy enough if you get the kits from EBAY (I got mine from China - have worked for 3 years now with no issues. Did all the lights, main, side, full etc so they all have the white look, hate when you see cars with yellow and white mixed!) does require making holes for the wires to the basalts in the back door (cheap to replace if you want to take them out later) just make sure you seal them well.

5) same as 2

8) you need to run wires from the mirror to the door connector and on to the central mirror. not too difficult but bridging the door is a pain (make sure you get the correct wires) - note the glass can be expensive and make sure you get the correct ones - some are flat, curved etc (need to have a Liquid crystal layer to make them dim)

9) you already have the details.

Let me know if you need any more info,

Walter.

Can you just stick a highline DIS in place of your red one, or is there a lot of coding to be done?

Dan

no you need enable/match the dash to the engine ecu or immo off, this can not be done with vcds alone and mileage correction is also required

wmccann
01-10-2011, 10:22 PM
DIS is not releated to High or Low line (this has more to do with the lighting wiring and the fact that highline can report dead bulbs etc).

Bit more complicated than this though.

You need to get a colour display (needs to be petrol for petrol engine or diesel for diesel engine!)

you then need to get the SKN from your current DIS and from the new DIS (assuming you are using a second hand one)

You also need to update the mileage of the new DIS

and "marry" the new DIS to the ECU/Immobiliser.

With the correct kit it is not too hard to do but the kit costs approx €300.

It just crossed my mind now seeing DIS topic, does anyone know why my Instrument No17 can only be coded to either display my phone book or my radio station or mp3 playing on the top section of my DIS when I press the mode button on my MFSW? At the moment I can only toggle into my phone book.

Theres a guy on here that will deliver to you a RS4 RARB factory part with bushes, bolts etc FOR ABOUT £85
All you have to do then is go to a garage and sask them to change them over. It takes 40 minutes and hey presto RS4 handling. You dont have to change the front one as its the same as the RS4.

ILL TRY TO FIND OUT WHO HE IS AND LET YOU KNOW.

Did you find out the member selling these?
