View Full Version : Got my new car .... and have rejected it!

ScottyUK

The last two months I've had this feeling Audi would miss something off the build and I'd have to reject the car.

Would it be B&O? Perhaps the Lighting Pack? Perhaps SatNav?

Well the tail pipes weren't chrome like the brochure says but they said they'd talk to Audi. They have missed the front and rear parking sensors also. "Don't worry" they said "they can be retro fitted at the Audi centre."

Sort of ok .... ish.

Errrm how the **** are they gonna retro fit quattro??!?!? :aargh4::aargh4::aargh4::aargh4::aargh4:

Drove home. Coming out of one round about I thought that felt like a wheel spun.... nah!! It's can't be and that was it.

I got home and noticed no quattro badge on the glove box....and then it was missing on the grill....and on the tailgate.

Under the car I go and I find this :

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul_scott/no_shaft.JPG

The round black thing is the centre of the wheel.....where I was expecting to see a drive shaft.

Just to convince myself of what I already new, I went to a near by junction and booted it whilst the wheels were at an angle. Massive tramping from the front wheels.

I've SMS'ed the salesman and he agrees I have to reject it. The paperwork is all correct so it doesn't seem like a dealer issue...apart from they didn't spot it. Admittedly the car did only arrive at theirs today.

So what to do now?

Get my S4 back? Use this car until a replacement turns up?

If it's another 8-10 weeks then the MMI 3G Sat Nav will be out or at least imminent so I reckon I'll be insisting on that.

I'm not particularly happy right now. :(

p.s. I'm more convinced that ever that quattro the correct choice for me.

How on earth do they miss that?

25-03-2009, 09:30 PM
ooh. That hurts.

They can retro fit the parking sensors...but the retro's stick out a little bit from the bumper on the rear where as the factory fitted ones sit in the bumper. Also the beep is harsher!

Still cant believe they missed Quattro...

Sorry to hear of your woes.
But what a timely post. Thanks Scotty.

I am due to pick up my B8 1.8T Manual (Sports Suspension, B&O, Sports steering wheel, Xenon, Sunroof) today and this makes me want to go over the car with a fine toothcomb before accepting it.

I get the feeling something will be missed as well, but I hope I am wrong.

Since this was all discovered after they'd closed and at the moment no one knows who ****** up, it wouldn't be fair to start pointing the finger. Time will tell

Blimey...doesn't say a lot for the dealer or the factory.

Once had a Golf GT ordered (16 week wait, loads of options) and as it was late the dealer sent a truck to the docks to collect it as soon as it cleared customs. I can well remember his shaken voice when the transporter driver called to say several options were mising despite the car's paperwork showing the factory had fitted and signed them off at QC.

Cue rejection and replacement but how on earth can these things be missed? Human error I know but so basic!

Sorry to hear that Scotty - am waiting on an A4 Avant Quattro with a very similar spec, so I'm grateful for the tale of caution! Hope they rush through a replacement build for you.

It's also making me wonder whether I want to start changing the order (see earlier thread question) if there's even a slightly increased chance of a **** up...

So what to do now?

p.s. I'm more convinced that ever that quattro the correct choice for me.

Personally I'm not sure I would still be driving it - they may take that as "acceptance"? (Any legal experts in the forum)? If that was me, the car and keys would already be back at the dealer and I/dealer would be on the phone to Audi's customer service arranging a "loaner" at their expense. I rejected a Peugeot 406 once, just for missing off (standard) cruise. I never even turned the key let alone drove it. I orderd optional cruise control, an interim spec change meant it was then standard kit. When it turned up it wasn't there at all!

Feel gutted for you, but stick by your order...and quattro. ;)

RichardCranium
26-03-2009, 04:36 PM
That's unbelievable! How can they be so useless. Dont drive it. As markp306 says get it back to the dealer and make sure they give you a loaner until they can sort you out

paul b

How the hell has this happened? Its terrible! Feel for you Scotty.

I wouldn't drive it... I'd take whatever it is they delivered to you back and get a different courtesy car, then you've not left your foot in it in case they deem it as acceptance.

Have you used the VAG Options Decoder to check the option codes yet?

http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

The codes are on the sticker in the service booklet, or in the wheel well in the boot.

Would be interesting to see if this was a factory screw up, or whether the dealer just forgot to tick all the options when placing the order.

I took my car back to the dealer as the radio didn't work (still doesn't) gave them the keys after a rather heated phone conversation. They refused to take it, or guarantee its security if i left it there over night.

Im 6 months into owning the car now and they have accepted its faults and will accept a very late rejection (in june 09, i got the car in sept 08) if all efforts to fix the issue fail, the last being retrofitting 3G MMI to see if it fixes the probelm and if its even possible.

And for the record:
LOVE THE CAR, HATE THE RADIO RECEPTION, SHOULD OF ORDERED QUATTRO.

When I went to test drive an s-line at my local dealers, I was waiting outside by the car while the salesman was just getting the keys. I was looking around the car in detail (just passing time) when I noticed that the tailpipes did not have the rolled chrome look to them at all, but instead the plain mild steel look that the SE model has. Another salesman came walking past and I mentioned this to him and he replied "oh that is rolled chrome, it`s not the same look as the rolled chrome surrounds on the front foglights, but that`s definately rolled chrome". I begged to differ and as soon as I got home I was on the internet looking at pictures that proved this guy, an Audi salesman, wrong. I feel really sorry for you and I hope that it get`s sorted soon, but now I`m waiting for something to be missed off mine aswell.

Along with everyone else, sorry to hear of your trouble.

The only spec. problem I had on recent delivery of 2.0T Avant S-Line, was (also) lack of chrome tail pipes. Likewise, dealer said he'd check with Audi. No news as yet. Compared to your woes, this is nothing (!)

ScottyUK
26-03-2009, 11:25 PM
There's no doubt the car will be rejected. I informed the salesman within an hour and sent an email stating it earlier. They're in breach of contract and that's that so it's not my problem. They suggested waiting until tomorrow to discuss it and hence we'll use this car all we like until then.

With regards the chrome tail pipes - they have them on s-line A3 and A5 so we compared. My car was ordered with them listed in the brochure and they were still listed in the brochure at delivery time.

I've no doubt they'll be included as this farce goes forward but any of you ordering an S-line should insist that the dealer guarantees you get them included.

I know the chrome exhaust thing is not that important in the grand scheme of things in this case, but

I have been looking in the most recent brochure - February 2009 - 'edition 6 02/09 2009 model year' and the January 2009 - 'edition 5 01/09 2009 model year'

On page 14 of both brochures, under the title of - S line model equipment', exterior equipment

It clearly states 'chrome rolled exhaust'

In my book they should look like these shown on a 143 bhp diesel A4 S Line

Yep - my dealer pulled down the latest one on his laptop when I queried it.

He then mentioned Audi can change their mind any time they see fit. I don't know if this is true.

Surely if you sign a contract which says somethings included they can't then charge you extra for it because they changed their minds.

Scotty,

I picked up my new A4 yesterday (non-SLine) and I noticed that it had the standard steel twin pipes. The sales lady walked down to the spares dept and confirmed with them that in Australia, ALL 4 Cyl A4's come with Chrome tips, so she sent one of the guys to promptly fit the chrome extensions before we drove the car out of the showroom. Happy to post some pics if that helps, but it looks exactly like the pic Bristle Hound posted before.

To be honest for £54 when you're spending new car money it's not major but still a nice extra all the same as a freebie.

my dad use to have an a4 s-line. Basically the footwells light up and the interior door handles have a slight red tint/light to them. Also in the DIS click that bottom button to get the car options menu. If i remember of the top of my head there is an option that allows you to turn the density of the interior light. In %. The option literally is interior light. To be honest, there really isn't much to the interior light pack...
In the book i know it goes on about reading lights for the back and reflectors on the doors. However i always found this standard all the time.

I wonder if someone could clear this up, the coming home lights? When you turn the ignition off, get out the car and lock it the lights stay on for usually 30secs (unless set otherwise) And when you unlock the car when it's dark the lights come on. (lights as in exterior headlamps and rear lights) Unless this is part of the rain/sensor pack.

Yep that is the coming home lights. My brother-in-law has them on his E270 CDI Merc, I wish I could retro-fit them to my A6 but it isn't possible without a separate switch. On my A6 it isn't something you can turn on with VAG-COM either. :(

OK - things are clearer ... on the lights any way.

The light pack is just an interior thing so doesn't affect "coming home etc"

OK so time for an update about my little saga :

It was a simple case of mistyping the order during transfer into the order system. It seems due to the old DOS based system and the long model name, only the q of quattro would show and this was missed during checking. Mistakes happen I guess and I prefer to judge companies on how they resolve these issues.

It'a taken a while since there's been some confusion and some delays (some of the delay was caused by me saying I'd like to get 3G MMI on the replacement car) but I'm glad to report that things are now all underway.

The plan is that I'll keep this current FWD car until September and then collect the new quattro car on a 59 plate.

I'm happy with this at it means I get all the MY2010 benefits including 3G MMI. They keep me mobile and cover the price increase that happened after I place my order in Jan and I'll cover the £470 for the MY2010 spec changes. All seems reasonable and fair to me.

Good on Stansted Audi for getting this resolved in a satisfactory way :beerchug:

Here's my full spec :

Audi 2.0T quattro Executive S-line Avant (211ps)
Aruba Blue Pearl
19" 7-arm double spoke wheels
