Door rubbing strips

Hi guys,

some how when i opened the rear door on my Passat yesterday, the edge of the chrome rubbing strip/trim half way down the door at the join between the front door, caught the front door trim pulling it away from the door slightly.
The trim is not creased but i think it will need removing from the door to straighten.What is the best way to remove it without damage and do i need any adhesive to assist re fitting?
How the hell this happened is a mystery!

You could try warming it up with a hairdryer, but unfortunately, they usually end up ruined and not going back on snugly.
