2001 A6 Quattro 4.2l Engine Code?

Can anyone help me determine the engine code for my 2001 A6 Quattro 4.2l ? I've searched high and low on google and have come up with a few different codes that all say that they are for this year and engine size. It's a US car, if that makes a difference.

Any insight would be appreciated...

It's on the ID Label in the spare wheel bay. Regards Peter

ART up to 5/2000 and AWN from 6/2000 to 7/2004 so I would expect it to be AWN.

Now I've got to figure out if I want to jump into the 'replace the thermostat' project myself.

Change the thermostat, if only it was that simple. The front of the car has to be moved to the sevice postion the cam belt has to come off and you'll need some good tools an some special to type to lock the cam sprokets and a sprocket puller. I suggest you to your homework on this one and obtain a manual, a sourse of the special tools and new stat, belts and water pump whilst it is all in peices. Regards Peter
