View Full Version : Bad Reception.
Hi Guys, A while ago I upgraded the head unit in my 2000 TDi Passat, ever since then I've had poor Radio reception. Does anyone have any idea how to improve this so I can get a strong signal again.

I fitted a new head unit to my 2001 SE Passat and I had to get a small adapter for the ariel lead connector on the old Gamma unit was different - are you sure the ariel lead is connected properly with the right type of plug?
If I remember correctly, the ariel socket on the new unit was on the opposite side and this made the cable very tight and difficult to push in all the way whilst the head unit was out far enough to get my fingers in behind. I had to unravel part of the loom to get enough extra slack...
Also on some cars, there is an ariel amplifier and occasionally, the power feed for this gets disturbed or re-routed to switch amplifiers when the kit is upgraded.
After having a couple of cars that use the rear demister as an ariel [with a naff amplifier], I have found the reception in the Passat to be very good.
Cheers,
Guy

I had a new Alpine head unit fitted a while ago and had to pay for a seperate antenna amp to help with the signal. Try your local ICE center as they may be able to help you out.
