Hi,

When I want to blip past someone, I often drop a gear or two using the paddle on the back of the steering wheel.

This puts the gearbox into manual / tiptronic mode (123456 appears instead of the D symbol in the DIS). The gearbox will remain in this mode for quite some time after the paddle has been used / your driving style returns to normal.

This hint may be obvious to others.. but here goes:

Once you've overtaken, a really quick way to get the gearbox back into D (drive) mode is to push the gearstick across into the + / - slot and then pull it back into the D slot.. the gearbox will instantly return to D mode.

Is this useful to anybody?

Al.

Another tip, is if you want to go backwards, simply put the lever in R then for forwards in D;)

Sorry Al, couldn't resist, it was as you said stating the obvious!:p

How's the new wheels and tyres?

Got any pictures?

Regards
D

Haha very droll! I never use the sequential + / - on the gearstick... I usually just plant my foot into the carpet or use the + / - paddles, so it took me a while to think of my helpful hint ;)

I'm currently having the wheels sprayed a chrome colour.. which may sound very bling, but it's not chrome in the traditional sense.. it's silver without any flack in it (I hate fleck!)

I saw a demo wheel at the weekend and I was chuffed! They will be ready next time I go home to Manchester (in a few weeks) but I won't be able to afford the tyres for a short while.

Just out of interest, do you know why the A4 needs reinforced tyres.. just because of it's weight?
