hi, i have a 54 reg passat est highline 1.9 tdi 130bhp, we've just had new camshaft an followers fitted along with 2 injectors, my problem now is on cold start if you blip the throttle it cuts out? if you dont touch the throttle an leave it tick over for 10mins it runs spot on?
its still at the garage where we had the work done.
can anybody shine any light on this?
regards lee
thanks in advance for any info!

It sounds like it is suffering from hydraulic tappet jacking. When it cuts out, is it very difficult to get started again sounding quite odd like it has lost all its compression but if you leave it ten minutes, it is fine? What grade of oil is being used??

you've hit the nail on the head by the sounds of it, thats exactly what its doing, do you think they've put the wrong oil in? the garage is a very well known one which is recommended by everyone local.

Where did the tappets and the cam come from? Was anything else done like the head being removed? Find out the grade of oil, using a thinner oil can help reduce the problem.

as far as i know they came from vw as a kit? i'm not sure if the head has been removed, surelly the garage would have used the correct oil? think i'll take a trip down to the garage this afternoon an ask a few questions!

VAG don’t do a kit of parts for the cam job, it is all individual parts. I would ask to see the receipt for the cam and especially the lifters, the VAG part number is 038 109 309 C and genuine VAG they cost £22 each including VAT.
