Hi All,
My arm rest creaks alot whenever you lean on it - it is really annoying. I mentioned it to Audi when my car was in for its 20k service, but of course it never got looked at.
It feels that the housing needs tightened to the floorpan - has anyone any experience of this problem, or know how to tighten the arm rest console?
My car is due back in for a couple of days in a few weeks to address a steering problem (clunking like hell!) but I am running out of patience and would like to sort it myself.
Thanks for your help

I'll also be interested in this one as I was about to note it with my dealer when my car goes in for some work on Friday.

Mine has started creaking too. I am always careful not to apply too much weight on it either. Becoming really annoying now I've noticed it!

I try not to put too much weight on mine, either - but even if you retract the rest right down, it still creaks. Therefore, I don't think that it is anything to do with the mechanism - either poor plastics or poorly attached. And it's been like that from the first few thousand miles

I have also notice creaking when applying pressure to the centre arm rest, but I believe this is normal. It also occurs in my Passat B5.5.
BTW, has anyone got the tri-zone unit (located to the rear of the arm rest) fitted to their B8. The reason I ask is that I have also noticed that the head unit is loose?

I've noticed mine has started to creak, but only when fully down, if i lift it up one or more notch's it stops.

Mine has never latched in any of the adjustable positions correctly since I got it. I will get the dealer to fix it on the first service.

You may be right, but I don't think that it is acceptable. you mention the 3rd zone unit - as this is part of the arm rest, I was assuming that the whole unit needs tightening down??

the B7 armrest was built like a tank but cost a fortune if you wanted one fitted but it never creaked

I put a smidge of wd40 in all the grooves and thats nearly stopped all the squeeks.

did you use WD40 with the straw applicator and then a cloth to wipe any drips?
