View Full Version : How does your A4 drive - vibration through accelerator pedal

Hi all
I've noticed a droning vibration through my accelerator pedal when cruising at speed i.e. 40 up to national. Its more noticeable when I feather the accelerator lightly during motorway driving.
Its like a tiny be constant droning vibration which is very annoying. It seemed to start when I took my car into the dealer and they 'updated the engine software'.
I also noticed vibration through the car at idle i.e. when sitting in the car in the morning I feel vibration through my back side sometimes lol :(
The car drives slightly different in first gear which is probably expected with such an upgrade - its less harsh when accelerating in 1st gear but more restrictive (if you know what I mean)
I have it book in at Audi again but would like to go with some further information or see if anyone has had a similar issue. I know a few have had issues with the engine/gear box mounts so thinking this could be a possibility??? or it could simply be the engine reacting badly to the software upgrade???
General question to all - how does your Audi drive? Do you feel any vibration at all through the acceleration pedal or anywhere else in the car when driving? - cheers!

I get a kind of vibration/lumpy feel through the pedal and the steering wheel but it happens at any speed. Also if i keep the clutch pedal in i,m sure i get some feedback, lumpiness then also.Have not taken it back to audi for a check though as i'm sure it would be charactaristic of the car.One more thing, when i reverse on full lock i get a high pitched squeal, took it to the garage for this and the buggar didnt do it on that occasion.

Anyone else?.... More feedback will be greatly welcomed :beerchug:
Hi,
I notice you don't mention the clutch anywhere in your post... do you have a manual or an auto mate? (I presume it's a manual).
Perhaps a daft suggestion: you haven't had your CAT / mid-section exhaust replaced recently have you? Sometimes a badly positioned exhaust pipes can cause vibrations (although mainly through the gear stick as opposed to the pedals).
How many miles has your car done? Is it possible your clutch is on it's way out?
Lastly, what's your engine please?
Al.

Its a 2.0 tdi, done under 40k, manual
Had clutch replaced which made the clutch so much smoother but still getting vibration through gas pedal. I'm not sure whether its just general cabin vibration now as I sat in the passenger side and could feel the vibration through the floor
Dunno whether its just me with a hugely sensitive foot lol

Howdy. My b7 (2005 19tdi se saloon) shudders and vibrates when idling and at around 2000rpm. its the flywheel. that can become 'unbalanced' casuing the shuddering/vibration. Its really noticeable on my motor but after some local warranty screwing with the dealer ( not audi but has block exemption for servicing) getting it sorted next week. Bit annoying as the car has only 70000 miles but its very common apparantly as most new cars have these dual mass or floating flywheels. getting mine replaced with a solid wheel so hopefully no more problems.
Hope this helps.

The purpose of the dual mass flywheel, mostly fitted to Diesels are to reduce vibrations caused by the long stroke characteristics of the engine, a solid flywheel will increase vibrations, not reduce them.

Its the dual mass wheel causing the problems - its become unbalanced the solid wheel is much less likely to become unbalanced.

I too have vibration coming through the accelerator pedal and an annoying clutch "crunch" when depressing the clutch moving through the gears.
Mine's a 2.0 TDi S-Line with 42K and Full Audi History. It's been in today and the "Master Technican" has declared that the clutch does seem to be rubbing on something but, and I quote "not bad enough to replace on warranty as the clutch is not slipping" The vibration through the pedal was described as a characteristic of the car.
I am not impressed, most car dealers are bullshitting chancers who will spin you any line to get out of fixing it. My friend works for VAG, I'm getting him to check it out and do a report for me.
These B7 TDi's do seem to be prone to various faults, beginning to regret buying it now . . .

Well I had my clutch replaced a few weeks back after reporting the vibration through the pedals. The clutch does seem slightly better and I thought that the vibration through the accelerator had died down abit during the 1st week but its back again
I'm not sure what to do tbh. Its still under warranty so I should be looking to take it back in again! But I wanted to get a gauge to see whether anyone else had encountered this issue and what they did to resolve it
It does seem to be a few audi's out there with this issue which is very worrying!
And like you, I'm starting to regret owning the B7. I've always wanted one and thought that owning an Audi would bring a pleasant driving experience. Its such a small issue but when you have to drive it on a daily basis it just eats away at you until you start seeing it as a major fault!
I hope to get it sorted it before I start looking for something else
Let us know how you get on - cheers

Just read of that thread - cheers c4a5er
The software upgrade is very interesting as I'm 99.9% sure I did not have this problem since the upgrade. I'm very fussy about my cars and if I feel something slightly wrong with any of them, then its noticed quickly!!
Got the car booked in again for Audi to take another look at. I shall mention the software upgrade and also the power delivery (or lack of) in 1st gear and throw in the "heard that these often have DMF issues" aswell

Hello mate, I am suffering the same problem with my Audi A4 B7 2.0 TDI CVT. Have you sort out the problem yet? Looking forward to see your response. Cheers
My B7 had the flywheel replaced with a solid flywheel to cure the juddering problem. almost a year later it reappeared so I have solved the problem once and for all - Got rid of what was quickly becoming an expensive and unreliable car and replaced it with an 11 month old Exeo - A seriously under rated piece of machinery.

I get very minor vibrations through my gearstick, but all pedals are beautifully smooth and vibration free.

For my B7 CVT, there is no Dual mass Flywheel. I ve no idea what can cause this annoying vabriation!!

Would love to know if you sorted this as i have exactly the same crunching clutch and small vibes throught the accelerator pedal! very annoying! car has done 65000. Had it into audi and they said nothing really wrong, would have to have the gearbox out to see!!

Thats what I thought, but the CVT does have a DMF, as I have just had mine replaced at vast cost. I also have a vibration around 1800rpm which is felt through the car, not the accelerator pedal. I think the new DMF is out of balance, now trying to persuade my dealer that there is a problem.

i have 2005 a4 avant 140 tdi s line - mine does the same i think between 40 - 60 (with very noticable change of 'feel' at 55-60mph) accelerating and decelerating. Just feels different through my foot - does not matter which gear either. Just doesn't feel smooth.
