I've got myself the dual hill hold buttons and fitted them, replacing the previous electromechanical brake and blanking switch. The electromechanical brake works as before but I've no response out of the hill hold button. The plug to both switches is the same and wiring occupies all positions of the plug, so I'm guessing the wiring is in place for it.

I'm guessing that I have to tell the car that hill hold is now resident. Does anyone know how this is done?

I've got VCDS 7.4/ lead, but dont really know how to make the appropriate use of it. Also I can get into the Xenon lights module but don't know how to adjust them down slightly. Any offers?

Hi I think you will need to adapt the control unit address 53

Basic Setting
Headlight Adjustment
[Select]
[55 - Xenon Range]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 001
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]

The meas. block field now shows "Wait" and should switch to "Adjust Headlights" then (this may take up to 10 seconds).
Adjust the headlights using their manual adjusting screws as referenced against a suitable aiming target.
[ON/OFF/Next]
The adjustment should now be learned.
[Done, Go Back]
Don't forget to check/clear fault codes afterwards.
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Hi Kenney (or anyone else who understands VCDS)

I've sorted the lights thanks but am unsure what to do with the parking brake. I assumed that I needed to go to coding in the parking brake module, but that is greyed out (new VCDS interface witd version 8.05) I know I need to recode from 0000011 to 0000012 but I'm unsure what to do.

Any ideas anyone

I'am fairly new to VCDS,use mostly VAS,but you are on the right track.Address 53,coding 07 and 000012.But i assume since the function is greyed out,you can not access the function

new beta version available from ross-tech VCDS Beta 812.4 (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/beta/current.html).Try with the beta version maybe you'll be able to access the controller.

Hi downloaded 8.12.4 last night, had no further success so wrote back to Ross Tech - their support is excellent. Their reply is below:-

The parking brake module simply doesn't support coding, which means the setting is either elsewhere or you need to have the proper components installed to make this feature work.

The fact is also confirmed by SSP 394, meaning the Parking Brake Control Module (J540) doesn't support coding.

It is possible that the Auto-Hold function is being coded in the normal brake electronics, however for these neither the coding table nor the required security access are known to the public yet.

I have one addition to make, its possible that your ABS control module does not support Auto-Hold and to really retrofit it you may even need to replace that ABS module.

Our general suggestions in such cases is to find a car with the desired function and similar build date as yours and get a scan from the vehicle in question.

So. Has anyone living in Kent got a A4 S line with hill-hold built around August/September 08 - that doesn't mind me running an autoscan of their car. Between us and VagCom we might just crack it.
