I have searched this forum and the net and am getting conflicting info as to whether the daytime running lights are standard with the SE trim.
I am just about to order a company car, am torn between the 3 series coupe and a4 (and a scirocco but i won't mention that!). But I very much like the LED DRL and give it a sporty feel and they might just swing it for me. I thought the lights only came with the S line and maybe as an option for the SE but reviews suggest you get DRL as standard on all models. Does the SE get some form of DRL's but not the curved LED one's of the S Line ?!
Thing is I like looks and speed but I may have to go for one or the other. I may have to decide between the S line in a 143PS or get the better speed of the 2.0T but just in the SE trim.
Can anyone please confirm ? I would appreciate any pics of the standard SE lights vs the S Line....
Thanks!

The SE has halogen DRLs rather than the LEDs on the S Line. It's a straight row of small, standard bulbs along the bottom of each headlamp. Go to the used car search on the audi website and you should be able to find some pics of SE models.
As I understand it
DRL are standard on all models, standard, se and s line. That is to say you get Daylight Running Lights on all models
It is the LED DRL that you get on the S Line, these have the same(ish) look likes those found on the R8, A5 and now across most of the Audi range as an option, Q5, A6 S6 A3 S3 TTS etc. On the SE you will get Halogen DRLs
I think that if you specify the S line model you get the Xenon beams that you cannot get on the SE and standard spec cars, so its not just the LED lights you get but a full Xenon head unit.
There are some early SE cars with the Xenon/LED combo. Its been awhile since ive looked at the brochure so not sure if you can specify LED DRL on the SE spec. I think its important to understand that DRL does not mean LED lights.
Perhasp those lucky enough to be waiting for a 09 car can help here who have looked at the brochure more recently.
In terms of speed and spec model, the 1.8T 160 fits between the 143 and the 2.0 you mention. Im sure the 2.0 is obviously quicker but if the limits on spending the money say one or the other take a look at the 160 1.8 in S line.

thanks very much for the replies, much appreciated.
The used car search in the audi site gives a good idea as to what you get in the SE and S line trim. As has been said, SE gets straight halogen daytime running lights, not quite as distinctive as the wrapped LED's of the S line but nice all the same.
As to the point on looking at the 160PS 1.8 S line as a compromise, I thought the same put due to the fact that the 1.8 actually has worse emissions (and so comp car tax) than the 2.0 - both engines work out about the same in terms of cost.
So it may be the 2.0T SE - been looking at the colour to give it a more distinctive sporty look.... so far i reckon garnet red, lava grey or the ibis white.... again suggestions welcome!!...
I understand what you say about the emissions on the 160 1.8. A few weeks after my order went through Audi anounced the new cleaner 2.0 version. Not happy at the time.
I think the A4 looks great in Ibis white. Its looks more "sportier" in white than say the "M" sport 3 series. We have a white S line in the car park at work and a chap on here has a SE Ibis white which looks great.
I think the wheels go a long way to add to the A4 so maybe save the £500 on metallic paint and get some different wheels IMHO, all depends on the type of ride you like I guess with the SE suspension. Audi offer the "executive" packs now which add some extra features.
Not seen a garnet red in the flesh. But come on be honest, the A4 looks great in any spec or colour!:D

Again, thanks very much for the feedback. It's gone midnight and I'm still sat here looking at the audi webpage, with different wheels and colours being tried...!! Missus went to bed hours ago!!
It may be the red wine talking but I think I am looking at a 2.0T SE. The Exec pack seems good (would want cruise and blueooth anyway). As for colour, its a toss up between white (looks great now but would it wear off?!) and the classier lava/meteor grey.
I agree about the wheels, to be honest I'm in two mings about the upgraded wheels that come with the exec pack, not sure if it makes it look a bit bland. Thinking more of the 5/6 spoke wheels that again addd to the sporty look.
What sort of lead time have people been having at the moment ?!

Hi I will be collecting my A4 Lava Grey S line with the 18" 5 spokes next Sunday, it definitely is a colour worth considering, being a pearlescent it can look from met black through grey to bronze as it has a red and gold fleck and the darker colours do set off the lines on A4 in my opinion, another reason is it does really look good against the contrasting platinum blade on the front bumper on the S lines.
When I get the car I will post some pictures.
Regards,
Greg.
On Order

Someone near my gf's mum and dad has a garnet red A4 B8- it looks absolutely class, and it is a SE too. If it is there today I'll take a sneaky pic of it on my phone for you :biglaugh:

Here's the Garnet Red one. It's a shame as when I got back from the city the owner had cleaned it and I could have got a better pic but my phone battery was dead!

More Garnet Red here (http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=600409608). Solid Red (http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=600409490) is really nice too, click on the lens to get full screen shots. Ibis White is a strong contender for me but so is solid red, had too many grey/blue cars:D

Very sharp. No matter one's taste for LEDs over halogen DRLs (or vice versa), when the A4 is just standing there, all lights off, the shape of the halogen's are truly more purposive, less 'cross-eyed' than the Xenons.

Front view but only with side lights on and not the full DRL's. Wish it was this clean now!
