hi i lost my keys for my mk3 golf tdi estate dint have a spare so i went to my local vw and ordered a new one with the logbook . but there were 2 types of key . 1 coded and 1 not. anyway the 2 lads serving me were arguing over which one i needed. £25 & £50 were the prices quoted . so ive took the cheaper option. does anyone know if they are all coded .
if the are why sell me a uncoded one?????:Blush:

It has an immobiliser with a chip in the key which is matched to the immobiliser under the dash. The new keys will not only have to be cut but also matched to the immobiliser which requires specialised software.

I have read in a MK"4" manual that the key fob is able to communicate with the car. In other words it can create a connection between itself and the car immobiliser but only if you unlock the car with the key. I am confused sorry. but you say you have the manual.

Please take a moment to read it.

It will be helpfull and save alot off £££

He has the log book, the owner’s registration details, not the manual. The key for a Golf 4 contains a chip for the immobiliser and often a remote control transmitter, both these have to be coded in as a new key will not match up on its own. Any “book” you have read that says otherwise is wrong.

im thinking of changing the barrell if the new key wont work . will that do if its got the cable with the new barrell?

That won’t help, the reader coil clips around the outside of the barrel. The chip in the key has to be matched to the immobiliser under the dash.

I am sorry to sound ratty here (had a **** day) but haven’t you read a word I wrote? The new key HAS to be coded to the immobiliser.

There may be other issues but without coding in the new key, you will never know.

Certain non franchised people can do it, not all. You will have to ask around.
