Sales can't be too hot. I see they are now giving away SE Executive spec on the A4 2.0 (143) TDI Standard trim.

http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/new_cars/current_offers/a4_offers_new/the_audi_a4_2_0_tdi.html

Similar deals on the A3 and the A6 as well. Also allowing for an extra 12% discount and its a good time to buy a car (not 6 months ago with hindsight!)

I think you'll find Germany no different to anywhere else with factory storage areas filled to capacity with unsold cars....:(

When I did a factory tour a few years ago, we were told that all cars have customers. i.e. they're not built until they do.

By customers it could be a named individual or it could be a franchise i.e. a local dealer for stock. If true then the only cars sitting around for Audi will be at dealers premises and hence you won't have acres and acres of them sitting there.

Sounds like a sensible plan. I hope it's true.

Spot on ScottyUK.

Why do you think you have to wait 12 weeks for an Audi yet my work colleague collected his 3-series in 1 week after ordering. Yes it was a stock car but to his spec and he told me there are a few ;) available.

Audi does not have the same issues at present with regard to Stock. These offers are not discounts!!! but are a reply to the activity from BMW & Mercedes Benz.

True - but my 11% was definately a discount ;)

jakerade
01-02-2009, 01:21 PM
yup - my 12% was too!

Audi have been issuing press releases left right and centre saying they are not affected by the downturn though i think the situation on the ground maybe somewhat different.

There is definitely a "pool" of stock vehicles somewhere as my old B7 came out of stock rather than waiting to be built though i believe their pool is somewhat smaller than other manufacturers.

They are admitting to being affected now, see the closing of the factories for a week. Problem according to some publications is when the dealers can't shift their stock and don't want to give further spec orders to the factory..

Take it how you want to but was told today by an Audi dealer fleet sales chap that they have 15% in a car and that's the lot.
I don't know if they are more or less competitive on different models but I was looking (and test driving) the A6TDIe which has just been offered with a free upgrade to SE spec and Satnav thrown in (Audi deal, not a dealers offer) and he's agreed a 12.5% discount on it.
I'm more than happy with this offer.

This is probably because the A6 is about to be replaced with a new face lifted version to bring it in line with the more aggressive A3 and A4.

This is the facelift model - TDIe is only available on the facelift and they stopped production of the old one last september

I reckon that things are not biting hard enough yet.

Going through a private broker, who buys good numbers of cars every month, was still only able to get a maximum discount of 11.5% off a new order from Audi for an A4 S-line. Hell, I got 12% off my 335d Coupe during the economic boom of 2007!

I think the Audi arrogance, is unfortunately, still very much alive and kicking. During these times of recession/depression this arrogance is beginning to look like dissolution.

It’s very frustrating as I will pay cash for a new A4 S-line today, but only based upon prices reflective of today’s economic situation!

Audi, wake up, times have changed and you’ve had your cake and eaten it for a long time…

ScottyUK

They're not suffering as much as many.... and now I've bought I don't want them to drop prices further as it will undermine the resale value. ;)

What is your Problem? Audi Dealers have to make money too. 11.5% and the dealer is making about £200 profit on the car if that.

As for BMW back in 2007 at 12% that is why BMW Agency was brought in at the begin of 2008 to save the dealers from themselves

I have no problem in people wanting a discount if you want more shop at the right time and go direct do not use a broker. Why pay someone to do the job you can do yourself.

Motorlogix and Elmfield Vehicle Solutions are offering around 12-12.5% mark online.

Took their quote into the local Audi dealer and was told that 'they will not be beaten online' however could not match the price quoted as it was 14% discount. When I got home I added the figures up on the online configurator and got a 12.5% figure... anyone know if the online configurator is incorrect?

Anyone used motorlogix/ elmfiled before - what are your experiences?

Im going to stop reading this thread as it depresses me. I got no where near 12% let alone 14.

I did order the car before it was available though so maybe thats why I got much less.

Rip off Briton must stop! We’ve had years and years and years of it, with ******** making us feel grateful for a free set of floor mats.

It’s a recession/depression out there and still these ******** are taking the p**s with their very, very generous discounts – NOT!

They’ve had their cake and eaten it for years, now it’s our turn to have a little cake too. If a ******* goes under then it’s their tough luck for not planning for a rainy day, instead of being greedy, greedy, greedy.

Sorry to rant on but I really hate the patronising way these businesses treat us Brits, making us feel that we should be honoured just to be able to enter their sacred showrooms.

Rant over… ;)

Try taking the VAT off the list price and then see what the discount % amounts to. VAT is a factor of the full price and the dealer can't give you a discount on the VAT.

ScottyUK

I saw a thread on this somewhere recently. Apparently it makes no difference to the numbers.

That would make sense as I got discount off the total OTR price including the tax etc :D

ry19
31-03-2009, 04:27 PM
Scotty's right - it makes no difference if the discount is given before VAT or after VAT.

Here's an example:

Price before VAT: £10,000
10% discount = £1000
Net price before VAT = £9,000
VAT @ 15% = £1350
Final price: £10,350

Price before VAT: £10,000
VAT at 15% = £1500
Total list price = £11,500
10% discount = £1150
Final price: £10,350

One point to watch is that discounts are likely to be given before the delivery charges etc. that are included within the OTR price in brochures, so you may need to knock those charges off before you do your sums.

I stand corrected

DaveTom

Hmmm, that wasn't the way I saw it.

Car 1
List price inc VAT £10,000
VAT 15% = £1500
Car = £8500 (+£1500 VAT)
Car -10% discount = £7650
VAT on above = £1147.5
Total cost = £8797.5

Car 1.1.
List price £10,000
Car -10% discount = £9000

Don't quite work like that - VAT on £10k final sell price is actually £1,304.43.

As the 15% VAT is applied to the pre-tax value, this means that the VAT portion is only just over 13% of the total.

So, like was said before - a %age discount comes up with the same final price whether it is applied before or after VAT, as you're applying a %age on a %age not an absolute.

That's why the reduction in VAT to 15% didn't give a 2.5% reduction in prices.

I must be bored...................

Totally accepted. Posted in a hurry then left the house. Realised the major boop when I read it on my return.
