My son has a VW Passat 130 TDI on a Y plate and recently I changed his front and rear break pads. Everything went fine. I did not fit genuine VW parts so the pad wear sensors are not on these. As this car gives the waring display to still change the pads because of pad wear I assumed it was just something we could address later the turning off of the warning.

I have heard since that this cannot be turned off and the only way is to fit genuine parts or at least pads with warning sensors in. The next big problem is that the car seams to have gone into limp home mode as I've read the term used in this forum. The question is, can the warning be turned off, do I have to re fit with genuine VW parts and could all this be the reason the car because it thinks the breaks are in a dangerous state be causing itself to perfom so diferently?

I supose it's a bit of a post for a first one but from what I've read so far the forum looks great. Wish I had had the net and forums such as these when I was having so many dilemas with my Vauxhall Carlton and Omega a few years ago. Am I excused for owning a Mondeo? LOL.

Not only can you not turn off the warning but as long as it is active the ABS id disabled ... at least so I was told by VW ...

Go to the front pads and find the plug where you would normally plug in the pad sensors.

Get a short length of cable and attach the ends to each end of the plug creating a loop. Do this on both sides.

Jabba, VW would tell you that so you'd buy their pads. If this were true, every time your pads wore down past the wear sensor mark, your ABS would fail.
