I've been looking at getting a 03 Passat Sport TDI130.
I've seen two, both have had a Cam-Belt change at 80k, I thought it should have been at 60k?
What is the correct service schedule?

Im also under the impression it was 60K.
However, prior to buying my 130TDI sport i phoned the VW dealer to confirm when my cambelt had been changed.
They said it had been changed at 48,000 miles. The servicing receptionist said they check for signs of wear and if it needs replacing then they will replace it. Perhaps that is what had happened here! Ie, they check it at 60,000 mile and it wasn,t as worn as it should be so they didn't change it!
I could be wrong though!
in my experience it doesnt hurt to quickly look at the service history and note the garage where it was done and give them a call! I always phone up and say "Hi i am looking to buy a 130 TDI, Yada Yada Yada, which was extenively serviced by yourselves, however could you just tell me when the cambelt was changed as i am worried about it and will want to bring it in if it requires one! Then just ask them about the fact that you though it needed changing at 60,000. I will be interested to find out what they say. They have always been very helpful!

Hi,
I think the cambelt interval for the 130 PD engine used to be 80K but they reduced it to 60K for safety reasons. Mine has been done at 60k and 120k and no problems.
Keep an eye on the auxiliary drive belt too as this can snap and sometimes take the cambelt with it leaving a hefty repair bill. I had this belt changed last time the cambelt was done - for piece of mind!

 O M G !
I've heard that the front needed to be removed on a V6TDI to do the cam-belt, but not the TDI130!
Or did you do this, just to make it easier for yourself?

Hi Yaktrebor, i did this myself as it only took 20/25 minutes more to remove the front of the car...and as you can see it gives you unprecedented access to the belt. I also changed the water pump, A.C belt and serpentine belt. Watch out for the type of tensioner used tho, cars before 2002 have hydraulic type and later cars (like mine above) have a friction type. Best to check with your local VW ******* before tearing the car apart.
Cheers

P.S: I also wanted to remove the Intercooler for cleaning...which is made a bit easier with the front off

Did cleaning the i/c make any difference to performance?

According to the HAYNES manual, 2000 and 2001 models are due at 60k but 2002-on are due at 80k.

vwmark, cleaning the IC doesn't really make much difference...it just does it job better if its not crudded up (on the outside).
Dan, I have the haynes manual and noticed that too. Thought i'd just phone the ******** just to make sure, they said 60,000 miles for my car (even tho its a 2003). Who you gonna believe?

my v6 tdi is on 68k and while the cam belt change is 80k in the book its safe to do it at 4 years old, which mine is.
