Just found this. (http://www.bryandirect.com/aboutbryan.html)

He survived. He's one very lucky bloke, and will forever be in debt to that car!

Says a lot for safety standards in modern VAG cars.

My question is why do people often put their survival down to "Faith in God"? Surely it should be faith in the engineers, designers and constructors of the car and the road systems which contributed to their survival, and a good measure of luck.

agreed, its nowt to do with god and all to do with those great vag engineers. my mum had a nasty one a few years ago in her faithful mk2 golf. a silly fiat pulled out on her while she was doing about 50. the fiat was a mess, but the golf did exactly what it says on the tin. no damage at all to the passenger compartment, crumple zones did the work. she came away with a couple of dislocated ribs. the policeman and ambulance crew that attended were impressed, saying if she was driving the fiat she hit, she would have been a lot worse, and thats in a 1986 golfy. nice one vw:approve:.

God 0 Car 1

Someone I know put his Gold (mk4) into a tree at over 60mph, it took the emergency services over 2 hours to cut him out but he survived. I was there and the Police said had he been in a Mondeo for example is would have been a fatality for sure. Ive got some pictures somewhere of the car in the pound afterwards, i'll get them dug out and put on here - the car is similar to the one in the thread!

Get them pictures. :p

We should turn this thread into a shrine for the the fantastic work put into these cars by the designers.

would it have in that mess if it had had some tyres on it?
perhaps it's just the pic,but appears no tread on fronts?
he was very, very lucky, though gives a great deal of convidence should the worst happen.
my little 2001 bora has 4 airbags,no doubt the audi would be even better protected/built.
regards,
stewy.

That was my first thought too. Americans are particularly bad for drawling on about god eveytime something slightly unusual happens! The vast bulk of accidents like that end up with decapitations, ribs through vital organs etc etc. Are we to presume god 's busy when they happen or does he just not like the victims?
Then again they'll spout some 5h1t about calling them back to heaven. Really convenient that one, a primary school kid could come up with a more elaborate & convincing response.
