Service Hisstory On 03 Passat

Im new here so if I hope this is the right place for this

I am in the process of buying a 03 passat 1.9 tdi se , Car is fine etc , however I am yet to see a service history.

I am buying it from an Independant dealer (they are a Mazda main dealer ), he said that he has contacted the previous owner and they have had it serviced regular, but he is still trying to find the actual book with the stamps

Is there anyway of finding out when the car has been serviced if he cant find the Book?

Also if he cant find it I am going to say knock some money off , how much does this depreciate the vaue of the car , ?

The car is in good condition there is little to suggest someone would neglect servicing, but you never know

if its been done at a vag dealer you can have it checked by them any vag dealer or if it was a rental car ie avis/hertz etc they will have a record

Its not a hire car I know that, I may just call the nearest VW dealer and ask them to check , because as I understood from the last reply any VW dealer would be able to check right ?


Would calling VW customer care help would they be able to check it ?

Any VW dealer should be able to do this. When I was in the parts department of my local Audi dealer, I gave them the registration number and up came the details on the screen - date & mileage of last service, when next one is due, customer's name & address. I presume it also had all previous history, but I didn't see that much of the screen.

They may even be able to provide a new service book with all that data in it (I don't know).

They probably will want to charge you though.

I called VW with the reg and he went through all the services that have been done , so basically ever 10K etc , i stopped writing it down after the first 5 or 6 :)

Im fully satisfied now, he said if i got a new book (which i need to ask vag dealer for ) the garages that did the services (there are 2 of them ) would be able to stamp the book for me ..

So looks like i will be buying the car now :)

If its a '03 then its likely that it was done at a main dealer for the warranty so try giving them a call.

I dont think you will have much of a problem as long as you get a good discount. Be very sure to make sure you build up a history for when you own it otherwise it will be very difficult for you to sell it on... Also check if there are any old MOT's or do a car data / HPI check becuase sometimes they log milage.
I.E. when MOT was done or if it was declaired when selling/buying the car in the past.

Your getting it from a main Mazda dealer anyways so you should get a good back-up service from them if anything is wrong

I have bought the car and found the service history in the pack... so there was no issue at all.

I have had 2 days of use out of it so far I am sure i will be back for advice as and when i need it

It has 60K on the clock , time for a cam belt change i think ?

Na they are good cars you got a result.

Yep they say a cam belt change at 60,000 and a lot of people tend to do the water pump and the aux belt at the same time.

Mine has 63,000 but I am selling it so thats the only reason I have not done mine yet
