Hi - this is my first post, although I have been a lurker for a while.
Later this year, after some financial jiggery-pokery, I should be in the postion of having in the region of £20K to spend on a new(2nd hand) motor ( unless SWMBO or the lure of a new home cinema system prevail !)
I have in the past shied away from spending lots of hard-earned cash on cars, as the value drops off so quickly, but I thought 'sod it - this time I am going to buy soemthing that I really want, not what will do the job'. Therefore, I am looking at the following :-

A4 2.0TFSI S-Line, with the options:-

7 Arm 19" Alloys
B&O
AMI
Comfort Pack
Heated Front Seats
Acoustic Parking Rear
Hill Hold
Tyre Pressure monitor
Interior Light Pack

Colourwise, Lava Grey (I would prefer blue, but Audi don't do one in the exact shade I would want - sort of grey-blue metallic - I had one of the last Ford Cortinas in Titan Blue - gorgeous colour)

The cost of all this is £30,675 on the Audi configurator, or £27,080 on Drive the Deal.

My question is this - am I realistic in thinking I should be able to find one later in the year, with all the above, for my 20 grand, especially the way prices seem to be nosediving?

You maybe able to get a good deal on a Used A4 2.0TFSI but I do not think you will find the same spec!! - Who knows what will happen next week let alone in 6+ months.

I would go into your nearest dealer and discuss your needs and see what they say.

Now are you looking for a broker to buy the car on your behalf or do it yourself. Personally I would broker the deal myself as I would not pay for someone to do it for me.

if u go to an audi dealer with 20k in your bank and tell them you want a car, trust me they will do all they can to find you the right car and give u a decent deal.

That's what I'm kinda hoping - although does cash do it nowadays - you hear stories of finance being a dealers preferred option as that's where they make the money.

At present selling cars is there preferred option does not bother them at all at the moment.

FYI. My dealer stated that they only take a maximum of £5k in actual cash.
Although I doubt that would be their policy if Puff Daddy walked in the showroom. :)

A friend of mine is looking B7 RS4s to purchase in a couple of months.

Prices have tumbled and when/if the economy picks up and credit starts flowing the values will stop the drop and pick up making the RS4 potentially a depreciation free car!

Note the word 'potentially' but prices cannot continue to tumble at the rate they are - FYI a 507bhp M5 can be had for £25k!

Sounds a bit strange, dealers should be willing to take anything to shift metal. By cash , do you mean anything non-dealer finance?

Our 'retail' car paid for by, ahem maestro card as finance from other sources. And we still got discount etc. Biggest ever debit card payment I've made!:biglaugh:

I would suggest you offer to pay whatever way gets you the best deal. If they want to finance it then go for it and then pay it off after a few months using the money you got tucked away...just don't tell them you plan to do that as they wont offer you the best deals if you do
