Hi , just to let people know that my local VW dealer have just replaced my pollen filter seal under warranty. Period is 4 yrs or 80k. I only had it booked it for MOT.
Thought it may worth mentioning just in case anybody out there wants to try to get theirs changed FOC.
Apparently the damage can cost upto £500 to repair, not sure if this is just the dealer scaremongering

Hi had this problem on my AUDI a4 51 plate crap design the control unit on the audi is under the floor carpet may be the same on your most VW models.
The drain off hole are under the battey these over time can get blocked
but you need a lot of water to rise up to get in around the box unit to cause a problem. I my self was qouted £600 min by my local dealer dry out and replace the control unit.
When taking a closer look I noticed the lid that sits over the pollen filter
even when it was clipped in place was faulty, if you remove it on the audi it has a flexable rear flange that stop any water that may run back getting into the car and under the carpet into the electrical control unit. Please all
take this out and check the flexable flange my one I noticed with closer inspection had a long split in it. A new cover cost me just £3.00.
