The boot of my 2002 passat kepps on opening when I unlock all 4 doors. When I shut it it keeps opening again and repeats this. When I only open the drivers door it is fine, no problem.

Any ideas:confused:

Mine does to, isn't it meant to?
What do youmean when you shut it it opens again?
You mean as though you are pushing the rubber opener?

as above, a bit confused. when you unlock the car, there are 2 options available... unlock drivers door only, unlock all doors (including boot). when you say the boot (opens) do you mean it physically opens up, as in lifts, the same way as if you were opening it by hand... or does it simply unlock?

if it just unlocks...thats totally normal

The boot physically opens, so I close it and you can here the boot opening again, and this just repeats.

if im right in what im thinking, the passat works on a pressure release, eg you press on the rubber underneath and it releases the catch to the boot, have you checked the release catch and mechanism for any obstructions?

i know it sounds simple, but first thing it could well be a tiny piece of random cr*p which is causing the latch to keep releasing if you understand what i mean.

thinking logically about it, it could also be as if the button you press to release the boot is 'stuck' on the open position if you understand me, that would be the next thing to check

Sounds as though your microswitch is on it's way out.

Do you have the three button key fob?

Yup, but I'm working my way through the problems

Am I right in presuming one press of the unlock button opens the drivers door only. Two presses of unlock opens everything and triggers the boot problem?

What does pressing and holding the boot release button do?

Not tried the boot button, will try later. But what you describe is whats happening.

Using the boot button on the remote the boot works as it should. The problem only seems to occur when unlocking all the doors, this is when the boot physically opens. I have checked the boot button to see if it was stuck but seems o.k. Any ideas?

I'd still say it was the microswitch.

Do you have any water ingress in and around the boot area?

I don't think you said whether it was a saloon or an estate either.

^ that rules out a leaky rear washer bottle.

My third time predicting a faulty microswitch ;)

Cost? Can I do this myself, is it possible to repair?

I'd say fairly simple, and the price of the microswitch I think is sub £50
