View Full Version : Please Help Passat Radio , No Power
Hi~
I have a 2000 Passat and went to change the battery today, now my radio has no power. I have the code but with no power I can't enter a code.
I checked the fuses and all seem fine, I have an autistic child and the radio is a savior, ANY advise would be helpful.

If the fuses are ok, (side fuse panel, No. 37) and it is switched on, then it sounds like you have zapped the radio (was it switched off when you changed the battery). Probably cost more to repair than to buy a replacement off Ebay @ around 10/15 £.
Aldi and Lidl usually have crackers around £35.
Good luck Regards Richard

Hi, if you cannot manage to fix the radio, i do have a gamma one(4 ch stereo) in very good order wich you can have for £35 posted. I will also include the manual with the radio code...Let us know if you are interested. Alternatelly, a new aftermarket stereo might cost 70-80 quid at local Halfords store but it might look a bit out of place ! Hope this helps...
Thank You !
I checked the fuse again and appears ok, if I can't fix it for a reasonable cost can ^ ^ you convert the cost of your gamma 4 ch stereo to us dollars ? Also I don't think I can access the forum yet to which your gamma is posted so can you post me a picture ? One other quick question...will the gamma work with the 6 disc cd changer in the back ? as I'm unable to get the changer out as well due to lack of power.
Again thank you guys sooo much !!! :)

Hi here is an example on Ebay,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GAMMA-Radio-6-CD-control-NEW-IN-BOX-WITH-CODE_W0QQitemZ140291289279QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Ca rsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item140291289279&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318
If you are in the USA (us dollars?) then your vehicle may have different block connecters to the Radio. ie.
USA Vehicles = possibly Quadlock connecters
EU Vehicles = ISO connecters.

Ok great thanks! do you know if it would work with my cd magazine ?
Does anyone know if the radio itself has a fuse located in the back of the radio ?

Another ? is there any way to remove th ecd changer ? in regards to no power supply ?
Also if I was to purchase a new monsoon I would have to take it to a vw specialist right ? And is there a way to test if maybe the memory chip is fried versus the complete radio ?

Now that you have stated that you have a Monsoon radio It is clear that that you have a USA spec car.
To be honest this is not the forum for this equipment as it is mainly EU members that use it.
There is other forums which may help you a lot quicker and be more familiar with your Monsoon Radio. Take a look here :- http://www.clubb5.com/ and
http://vwnavi.com/forums/index.php these guys have done lots of conversions from EU to USA specs.
and here :- http://www.passatworld.com/
These are USA based Forums for B5 Passats
It is also highly likely that your CD changer will work with a VW EU spec radio as I think I saw a pic once of a quadlock connector which incorporated the mini ISO connecters that Eu spec cars use, but check it out at any good car radio shop or the forums I have given you first.
Good luck Richard
