98 tdi estate cutting out on start up

hi,

Have a 98 tdi estate and every couple of months, it fires up and then cuts out. It can then take upto 10 attempts before firing up again. Any ideas?
Could it be immobiliser/key or fuel?

My Galaxy TDI did this when I bought it. It turned out to be the relay which controls the power to all the electronics under the bonnet. Could be the same thing on yours I guess?
